At a meeting of EU foreign ministers held today in Brussels, the 27 ministers decided to renew the convening of the EU-Israel Association Council with Israel for the first time in more than 10 years.

The Association Council is the senior political body in charge of promoting all relations between Israel and the European Union, including at the political, economic and technological levels.

The convening of the Association Council will enable Israel to continue to develop its relations with the European Union for the welfare of Israeli citizens.

About a year ago, then-Foreign Minister Yair Lapid attended a meeting of EU foreign ministers and defined the convening of the Association Council as a key goal in Israeli-EU relations. The past year has seen a significant improvement in Israeli-EU relations, which has been reflected in, among other things, the signing of the Horizon Europe agreement for R&D cooperation and visits by senior members of the EU, including EU President Ursula von der Leyen and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.

Prime Minister Lapid said: "The fact that the 27 foreign ministers of the European Union unanimously voted in favor of strengthening economic and political ties with Israel is proof of Israel's political power and the government's ability to create new opportunities with the international community."
