Shulamit Aloni was Minister of Education in Israel for only a year under Yitzhak Rabin, but was removed from her post because of her objections to the government’s relationship with the religious elements inside Israel. It was while she was Minister of Education that she also criticized strongly organized tours by Israeli high school pupils to Holocaust concentration campson grounds that such visits were turning Israeli youth into haters of gentiles. She lambasted religious schools for including the Book of Joshua in their curricula on grounds that it justified conquest of the holy land.
She was reappointed Minister of Communications and Science and Culture and served until 1996 when she retired from party politics. But she remained involved with the politics of the Knesset, leading the “peace camp” of the Ratz Party (initially a Civil Rights party) and eventually uniting a bigger leftist party in the Knesset now known as Meretz. Meretz in the U.S. is known as the Party for a Progressive Israel.
Meretz today contains Israeli leftists, Stalinists and Israeli Arabs, some of whom claim they are “Zionists", such as members of B’tselem, NIF and Peace Now. The worst of these, of course, is Peace Now both in the US and abroad since its actions are aimed directly against the Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria alone. Peace Now has even hired aircraft paid for by European money to fly over Jewish homes and if someone ads a fence or deck to his or her property, Peace Now alerts the worldwide media and demands the government make them remove it. Whereas, B’tselem, with its EU funding, has been known to stage phony atrocities by Jews against Arabs in order to delegitimize the rights to Jewish land ownership in Judea and Samaria, Peace Now aims at all the settlements trying to find excuses to disband them.
Aloni would call herself a social democrat who fought for civil rights, This was limited, however, to those within the 1949 Armistice lines and to Arabs in Judea and Samaria. leading to the formation of an organization to protect the rights of Jews. What she espoused was a direct way to bringing abut the end of Israel as a Jewish state and giving the Arabs whatever they wanted. Aloni never openly said this, but she was in the long run subversive to the Jewish and Israeli people.
The historical justice of Jewish children from Israel visiting Auschwitz to wave Israeli flags totally appalled Aloni. Rather than its being a vindication of the survival of the Jewish people to her, it was needless nationalism. About the incident and while still Education Minister she said, such visits were turning Israeli youth into aggressive, nationalistic xenophobes, claiming that students "march with unfurled flags, as if they've come to conquer Poland."
Apparently, Jews who stand proud annoyed Aloni more than Arabs who murdered those same children for being Jews. Israel’s academic left follows the same thought patterns as Aloni.
Pacifists who are genuine pacifists do not choose sides in any conflict. While their inaction might be deemed aiding the enemy, they do in fact have a right to oppose wars. But so many of Israel’s “pacifists” are in fact not really pacifists, but rather cheerleaders for Jew-killers who use the term pacifist to suggest loftier goals than those they really espouse. Aloni’s peers in Meretz take money from the EU and promote Palestinian dogma and myths about Israel having been stolen lock, stock and barrel by the Jews. Be this because of some quisling’s ability to make money at it like Ilan Pappe or Shlomo Sand, or to get attention from it like Dalit Baum or Norman Finklestein - all of whom claim they promote pacifism and in their next breath encourage war on the Jews to the Arabs’ advantage.
They even throw their support to the serial Jew-killers in Hamas and Hezbollah, as long as they have an audience.
Across America there is a news program run by a woman named Amy Goodman that she calls “Democracy Now,” which is really a promotional program for all manner of fascist dictatorships, communist-rule and terror advocates. The program dubbed the Hamas support ship, the Mavi Marmara, and its crew of terrorist supporters innocent victims of the warmongering Israelis. Goodman had Aloni on her show. Here’s what Aloni said about Israel, and more importantly, the Jewish people:
On 14 August 2002, former Israeli minister, Shulamit Aloni, said this on the US news program, Democracy Now:
"It is a trick; we always use it. When, from Europe, if someone is criticizing Israel, we bring up the Holocaust. When, in this country (USA), people are criticizing Israel then 'they are anti-Semitic'..
"And the organization is strong and has a lot of money and the ties between Israel and the American Jewish establishment are very strong and they are strong in this country..”
She continued, “They have power, money, media and other things and their attitude is Israel my country right or wrong... They are not ready to hear criticism. It is very easy to blame people who criticize certain acts of the Israeli government as anti-Semitic and to bring up the Holocaust and the suffering of the Jewish people and that 'justifies' everything we do to the Palestinians...."
Did she mean providing them electricity and food and free medical care from Gaza, giving them stipends for their children, affirmative action in the universities, protecting the ones who want only to work for a living from the terror thugs among them, guaranteeing them the same full rights as Jews if they are Israeli citizens?
We tolerate their calling us racist practitioners of apartheid when we have the only nation in the Middle East that doesn’t practice apartheid. And we continue to talk peace with them when they say they will have an apartheid state eventually with no Jews.
Aloni’s statements were a PFLP attempt to deconstruct by the Arabs the truth to deflect accusations of anti-Semitism in US and Europe. One of the main reasons this war is unending is due to the activities of Israelis like the late Shulamit Aloni who perpetuated the lies against Israel.
