Yesh Atid chairman Yair Lapid and Yamina chairman Naftali Bennett met last night (Saturday night) for the first time since the election.
The two discussed contacts to form a government and preparations for the round of recommendations at the President's Residence.
The meeting ended after two and a half hours and sources speaking on behalf of Lapid reported that "it was a good meeting and another meeting will take place soon."
The Likud is pressuring Yamina to join the right-wing/haredi bloc in order to prevent the anti-Netanyahu bloc from being able to form a coalition. The center-left bloc is reportedly even willing to give Bennett the mandate to be prime minister if it means removing Netanyahu from power.
However, Yesh Atid fears that if Bennett accepts the mandate, he will use it to form a right-wing government which will include the Likud party.
On Friday, Bennett met for three hours with Prime Minister Netanyahu. According to a report by Channel 12 News, Netanyahu offered Bennett the premiership in a rotation agreement.
According to the report, Netanyahu offered to remain prime minister for a year to a year and a half, after which he would transfer the reins to Bennett. This would mean that Bennett would approach the next election cycle as prime minister and with significant support from within the Likud itself.
