Blue and White leader MK Moshe Ya'alon on Saturday criticized Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's discussion with US President Donald Trump regarding the possibility of a new mutual defense treaty.
"After the 'Jordan Valley annexation' spin got old, Netanyahu began using the US administration for a new spin: the mutual defense treaty between Israel and the US," Ya'alon tweeted.
"Until now, Israeli prime ministers have opposed the idea, due to its disadvantages: 1) a loss of freedom of action for Israel (every operation of ours will need to be approved by Washington?), 2) Do we want our soldiers to fight in Afghanistan or Iraq, and American soldiers in Gaza?
"And also: After I looked at the US President's announcement, I understood that it won't happen: It will only be discussed after the elections. It's just another (dead) rabbit that Netanyahu pulled out of his hat.
"Enough with the lies! Vote Blue and White, and let's get back to normal!"
Moshe Hayak, one of the first commenters on Ya'alon's tweet, wrote: "We anyways ask for permission before every action, and I'm a private."
On Saturday, Israel's Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz (Likud) hinted that such a treaty would not limit Israel's ability to act in areas other than direct conflict with Iran.
