Amir Peretz is in talks with former Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) chief Yuval Diskin to join the Labor-Gesher alliance, Kan 11 News reported on Saturday night.

The contacts began a few weeks ago and are continuing now, after the merger with Orly Levy-Abekasis, according to sources close to Peretz.

Since leaving the Shin Bet in 2011, Diskin has several times made public remarks against government policy.

In the past, he blasted Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu as weak when it comes to the peace process with the Palestinian Authority.

Diskin previously portrayed Netanyahu and Ehud Barak, who at the time served as Defense Minister, as “messianic” and “unfit to hold the reins of power.”
