Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu opened this morning's weekly cabinet meeting referencing Operation Northern Shield to thwart Hezbollah terror tunnels in the north.

"Operation Northern Shield continues," Netanyahu said. "IDF soldiers constantly operate in all weather to expose and neutralize tunnel after tunnel. The operation will continue until it's completed.

"At the same time, we're working on the political level to denounce Hezbollah and Iran. I've spoken with Russian President Putin, delegations of the two armies will meet in Moscow in the coming days, and then we'll have a meeting," Netanyahu said.

"I told President Putin that we'll continue our policy, we won't allow Iran to establish military bases in Syria, we'll continue to act against precision weapons in Lebanon and we'll complete thwarting the tunnel threat."

Netanyahu then addressed the issue of appointing Haifa City Councilor Raja Za'tara as a paid deputy mayor, after publicly expressing support for terrorist organizations.

"The morning before the meeting I looked for Haifa Mayor Einat Kalish to ask her to cancel the appointment of a deputy mayor who supports Hezbollah and Hamas who call for the destruction of the State of Israel. I'm glad our friend Aryeh Deri's already begun to deal with the matter because this appointment is unacceptable," Netanyahu noted.
