A family in the town of Nokomis in Florida’s Sarasota County was in for an unpleasant surprise over the weekend after finding an 11-foot alligator taking a dip in its swimming pool.
The Sarasota County sheriff's office posted a video of a trapper dragging the animal from the water on Saturday, also tweeting pictures of the incident with the comment, “Just no.”
The officers commented in response to their own tweet that the alligator had managed to “bust right through” a screen door to get to the swimming pool.
Alligators are native only to the southeastern USA and China. In contrast, the similar-looking crocodile is found worldwide.
Most US alligators live in Florida or Louisiana, with over a million in each state.
