State Comptroller Yosef Shapira wrote a letter Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu requesting his position on Israel's efforts to return the body of IDF soldier Hadar Goldin, held by the Hamas terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip for nearly four years.

The State Comptroller recently met with Goldin's family and presented them with a detailed document on the State's handling of the return of the soldier's body to Israel.

Shapira did not elaborate on the Goldin family's arguments in his letter, but appealed to the prime minister to "accept his response to the Goldin family's claims."

The comptroller requested the prime minister's response "as soon as possible." The letter was also sent to Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman. After receiving the answer, the comptroller announced that he would consider how the Defense Ministry had dealt with the issue.

Goldin was killed during a Hamas ambush during a humanitarian ceasefire to which Israel agreed and Hamas violated during Operation Protective Edge in 2014.
