A haredi woman who boarded the Jerusalem light rail discovered that her travel card was not being accepted by the scanner on the train, as it was lacking 50 agorot (about 14 cents) from the required cost of the ride (her card was charged with 5.40 shekels instead of the required 5.90).
Channel 10 reported that, after she turned to a train attendant, she was removed from the train, and two attendants wrote her a ticket. Documentation of the incident shows her begging and crying, but to no avail.
The Citypass company, which operates the light rail, said, “We are talking about a passenger who boarded the light rail, knowing that she did not have an acceptable travel card. As the passenger did not pay for the ride, she was charged more, in accordance with the law.”
“At every station it is possible to check the available balance on a card before boarding the train. We are sorry for the unpleasantness but, according to appearances from the video, despite the attempt to provoke the attendants, they showed restraint and respect for the passenger throughout the incident.”
