Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely met today with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Antanas Linkevičius and congratulated him on the victory of the Lithuanian national basketball team over Israel.
Hotovely added jokingly that she hoped the Lithuanian victory would not undermine relations between the two countries.
The Deputy Minister noted the rich Jewish heritage in Lithuania and mentioned the Gaon of Vilna and the world of Lithuanian yeshivas on which the Jewish Torah world was established in the area of Lithuania.
The Foreign Ministry is working with Lithuania to restore Jewish property and Deputy Foreign Minister Hotovely asked the Lithuanian Foreign Minister to promote a solution for the restitution of Jewish property.
Hotovely and the Lithuanian minister also discussed political issues."As you do not want terrorism in Barcelona, Paris, and Berlin, we do not want terrorism in Jerusalem. Press the Palestinian Authority to stop educating an entire generation to terror," said the deputy foreign minister.
"As long as Europe has not offered a solution to Gaza, it can not press Israel to repeat the mistake and give up Judea and Samaria and create a second Gaza scenario," the deputy minister said.
At the meeting's conclusion, Deputy Minister Hotovely gave the Lithuanian Foreign Minister a gift miniature Jerusalem marking the Jubilee Year of the city's reunification.
