Over 60,000 people will have to evacuate their homes in Frankfurt on Sunday, as police will attempt to defuse a massive bomb left over from World War Two.
The unexploded 1,400 Kilogram British bomb, nicknamed 'Blockbuster', was found by construction workers near the Westend campus of the Goethe University, police said in a statement.
Authorities stressed that there was no danger to the public, and the evacuation was strictly for safety reasons.
“Due to the large size of the bomb, extensive evacuation measures must be taken,” police explained.
Thousands of unexploded bombs are still uncovered each year in Germany, leftovers from the Allies relentless bombing during World War Two. In May, 55,000 residents had to leave their homes in Hanover in May so police sappers to defuse several bombs.
