Dozens of rabbis from the Religious Zionist sector signed a declaration of support for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu following the cancellation of part of the Kotel (Western Wall) Plan and the passage of the Conversion Law in the Legislation Committee.

The declaration comes after a protest held by Reform and Conservative representatives on Saturday night in front of the Prime Minister’s house, during which the Executive Director of the Reform Movement in Israel promised, “We will not allow a haredi monopoly on conversion and we will not give up until the Kotel Plan is fully applied.”

In the declaration, the rabbis, “bless and support the government of Israel, and its head, Mr. Binyamin Netanyahu, for the important decision to maintain the sanctity of the Kotel, and for efforts to strengthen the governmental conversion system. These processes fortify the Jewish color of the state and protect the unity of the Jewish People."

“We hold that the Western Wall, holy along its entire length, just like all public matters of Judaism and Jewish law in the State of Israel, needs to continue to be managed under the full responsibility of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, as was expressed in the vision of Rabbi Avraham Yitzhak Hakohen Kook, the founder of Israel’s Chief Rabbinate.”

They emphasized: “We hope and pray that the government of Israel will continue to strengthen the Jewish character of the State of Israel.”

Among the signatories to the statement are head of Ateret Yerushalayim Rabbi Shlomo Aviner, Chief Rabbi of Tsefat Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, head of Kerem Beyavne hesder yeshiva Rabbi Mordechai Greenberg, Rabbi Moshe Gantz of Shaalvim hesder yeshiva, Chief Rabbi of Samaria Rabbi Elyakim Levanon, head of Maaleh Adumim hesder yeshiva Rabbi Shabtai Sabato, head of Sderot hesder yeshiva Rabbi David Fendel, head of Raanana hesder yeshiva Rabbi Haim Rettig, and others.
