Jay Sekulow, a lawyer for US President Donald Trump, said that the President has not been informed that he is under investigation, despite a tweet from Trump calling an investigation against him a "witch hunt."

“The president has not been notified by anyone that he is under investigation,” Sekulow told Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace.

Wallace said that it was possible that an investigation had been started without Trump's or Sekulow's knowledge, to which Sekulow responded: "I can't read minds."

On Friday Trump tweeted "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! Witch Hunt!"

The tweet led many to conclude that the President was under investigation for possible obstruction of justice for firing former FBI Director James Comey.

Sekulow said that Trump's tweet was not in response to anything official, but was made in response to an article in the Washington Post which claimed that an FBI probe led by special counsel Robert Mueller was investigating Trump for obstruction of justice.

The Washington Post issued a story that had five anonymous sources, which they never identified as to what agencies those sources originated out of,” Sekulow said. “The response from the president, using social media, was about that story.”

“Nothing has changed since Comey said the president is not a target," Sekulow told Wallace.
