The decision made by the Supreme Court on the 31st of January 2016 required the government to make arrangements for non-orthodox women to pray at the Western wall.
The Women of the Wall have been lobbying - sometimes aggressively - for a change in the status quo of prayer arrangement in the Kotel. The Supreme Court ruling came after repeated attempts at finding a compromise fell through.
The Supreme Court reacted with harsh criticism, accusing the government of neglecting to implement a decision that was made many months ago.
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Miriam Naor, reacted with outrage stating that “Matters have gone too far.”
Anat Hoffman, Director and a founding member of Women of the Wall, said, “There are judges in Jerusalem. The Supreme Court sent a very clear message this morning that new arrangements must be made at the Western Wall. I am certain that the representative of the government who heard the judge’s words today ran to the Prime Minister’s Office in order to clarify to all that time is up and that the government must demonstrate leadership by implementing the Court’s decision.”
