שריפה פרצה ביער ירושלים

A large forest fire broke out on the western slopes bordering Jerusalem Monday, after work on the water infrastructure at a local visitors’ center accidently sparked the blaze.

Initial reports indicate that the fire began next to the Zippori Center, a visitors’ center and guest house inside the Jerusalem Forest to the west of the city.

While workers welded a pipe on the Zippori Center compound, sparks from the welding set nearby dry brush on fire. The fire quickly spread to nearby trees.

Aided by the hot weather and strong winds, the blaze spread across the forest, torching some 86 acres (350 dunam).
