A 50-year old man was shot and seriously wounded Monday morning outside of the municipal building in the Druze town of Julis in northern Israel.
Emergency first-responders were called to the scene and rendered first-aid to the victim, but were unable to revive him. He was declared dead at the scene.
According to initial reports the shooter is a senior official on the town council. The shooter claimed he fired in self-defense, after the other man threatened him with an axe.
Taid Quas, a paramedic who treated the shooting victim, described the scene of the incident.
“Next to the municipal building there was a man, roughly 50-years of age, lying unconscious after suffering a [gunshot] wound and bleeding in his upper torso.”
“We rendered medical treatment, including halting the bleeding and advanced resuscitation techniques, but his wounds were severe and within a short time we were forced to declare his death.”
