Yitzhak Geniram, one of the founders of the post-1967 Jewish community in Hevron and a member of the Jewish underground in the 1980s, passed away Wednesday night.
Geniram was also a founder of the Gush Etzion Field School. As a resident of Ramat Magshimim in the southeastern Golan, Geniram was one of the first to begin farming in the strategically vital area.
In the 1980s, Geniram became involved with the ‘Jewish underground’, which responded to Arab terror attacks with vigilante actions across Judea and Samaria.
In 1980 Geniram procured explosives used in car-bombings targeting Bassam Shakaa and Karim Khalaf, mayors of Arab cities and PLO supporters. Both men were crippled in the attacks.
Three years later, Geniram helped organize the attack on the Islamic College in Hevron which left 3 dead and 30 wounded.
After serving four and a half years in jail, Geniram was pardoned by President Chaim Herzog in 1988.
Prior to his passing, Geniram resided in the Old City of Jerusalem.
The funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Har HaMenuchot cemetery in Jerusalem.
