Heavy rains in Israel's south and throughout the country have caused winter weather to return Tuesday - in some cases, with a vengeance.

Streets flooded in Be'er Sheva Tuesday, stranding motorists and pedestrians.

Among the casualties: part of the ceiling of the Bianca wedding hall in the city, which collapsed and flooded the hall after a lightning bolt hit the establishment. Luckily, no one was in the building at the time.

Floods from Nahal Tzin between Machtesh Ramon and the Dead Sea have closed Route 40 from Nafha prison to Tziporim junction since Monday; drivers have been advised to use alternative routes. Flooding has also been reported from a waterfall near the Abdat stream.

Heavy rain and strong winds are expected overnight Tuesday/Wednesday throughout northern and central Israel; localized rains will fall throughout the Negev and farther southward. Lows will remain lower than the seasonal average overnight, ranging from 9°C (48.2°F) in Tzfat (Safed) to 15°C (59°F) in Eilat.
