Education Minister Naftali Bennett (Jewish Home) equated on Thursday the perpetrators of the Duma arson case to the extreme leftists and explained that both have given up hope and are try to bring Israel down with them.

Bennett lectured the students at the Peres Academic Center in Rehovot, and asked, "Why do you think the Duma attack happened? The goal was not murder, it was just the means. These are people who have become despaired from persuading the people of Israel on their positions, and they want to bring us down. They're trying to burn down our house", he stressed.

According to Bennett, a similar dynamic exists within the far-left.

"Take the example the man who was Director General of the Foreign Office and encouraged leftists groups such as Breaking the Silence and B'Tselem to create disturbances among the Arab populace in order to obtain pictures to convince the world to boycott us,” he said, referring to Alon Liel.

“We need sane forces to step up and lead - both on the right and left," said the Minister of Education. “It is exactly in these situations that we need a unifying force, rather than having separate groups of people provoking each other.”

"And most importantly," said Bennett, "we must not discredit an entire population because of its extreme minorities, on all sides – not the Arabs of Israel, not the entire right, and not the people of Tel Aviv".
