An Arab media outlet, quoting a German news agency, reported that the Israeli Air Force struck Syrian military positions near Homs last Thursday, Ynet has reported.
The report, which appeared in Al-Quds Al-Arabi, added that the US knew of the operation and the IAF jets safely returned to base after completing their mission.
An Israeli strike on Syria January 18 killed six members of the Iranian-proxy Hezbollah terrorist organization, and several Iranian soldiers and commanders, including an Iranian general.
Iranian officials confirmed that a general in the elite Revolutionary Guard force was killed.
"General Mohammad Ali Allahdadi and a number of fighters and Islamic Resistance (Hezbollah) forces were attacked by the Zionist regime's helicopters," said a statement on the Guards' website. "This brave general and some members of Hezbollah were martyred."
The strike killed Jihad Mughniyeh, son of the late Imad Mughniyeh who was Hezbollah's military commander. It also appears to have thwarted an attempt by Hezbollah to create a guerrilla front against Israel in the Golan Heights.
