David Fish, a physicist and electro-optic engineer by trade, has been an artist since he was a child. A few years ago, he felt the urge to show his works to the public, and contacted the exhibition committee at the Modiin Cultural Center.
The committee did not take long to give the unknown artist a positive reply.
Fish paints in a naturalistic style, and his paintings are of Samaria (Shomron) landscapes. His pieces include a scene from the community of Yitzhar viewed through a sea of wheat; the Samarian mountains at dusk; the town of Barkan overlooking the ancient Shiloh Stream, and more.
"The painting is a part of me and I paint my feelings, actually,” Fish said. “But I admit that when I paint the landscapes of Samaria, I have another goal: to expose to the public the beautiful Samaria, the less known Shomron, with its breathtaking scenery, through an artistic prism.”
Gershon Mesika, the Head of the Samaria Regional Council, said of the exhibition: “Art is an inseperable part of the renaissance of a nation in its land. We intend to continue to encourage art and artists in Samaria, which is undoubtedly the best place for artists because of the quiet, the open spaces, and the extraordinary landscapes and beauty.”
The exhibit is open at Modiin's Cultrual Center and will close on October 31. Visiting hours are Sunday to Thursday, from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Fridays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
