Shas chairman MK Aryeh Deri visited the party’s spiritual leader, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, at the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital on Monday, after the rabbi underwent surgery to repair a fracture to one of the vertebrae in his lower back.
In a post on his Facebook page after the visit, Deri wrote, "I’ve just come out of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef’s room, and I want to tell you that the treatment was successful with G-d’s help, and the rabbi is now in the recovery room and breathing on his own."
"On behalf of the rabbi and on behalf of his family I thank the many people who prayed for the rabbi’s complete recovery,” wrote Deri.
The Shas chairman added that he is hoping that Rabbi Yosef will begin his recovery process on Tuesday and will be able to resume his studies in the coming days.
Rabbi Yosef was back in the hospital on Sunday, after complaining about pains in his back. It was the third time in recent weeks that he has been rushed to the hospital after suffering pains, with the most recent incident just last weekend.
The rabbi fell while walking in a corridor in his home several weeks ago, and apparently injured himself. He was taken to hospital for treatment and released, with doctors saying he was in good shape. Last Sunday, Rabbi Yosef was taken to hospital again for treatment, after complaining about pains over Shabbat.
