Internationally acclaimed singer and actress Barbra Streisand will receive an honorary doctorate of philosophy from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem next month.
Streisand, who is set to perform in Israel next month, will be presented with the award in recognition of her professional achievements, humanitarianism and dedication to the Jewish people.
“Barbra Streisand’s transcendent talent is matched by her passionate concern for equality and opportunity for people of every gender and background,” said Hebrew University President Professor Menahem Ben-Sasson.
“Equally important, her love of Israel and her Jewish heritage are reflected in so many aspects of her life and career,” he added.
The renewed vocalist will receive the honorary PhD in a ceremony on 17 June, after which she will perform at the 90th birthday of President Shimon Peres and give two highly anticipated concerts in Tel Aviv.
