Mitt Romney joked during his acceptance of the GOP nomination that despite President Obama's illustrious promises, he was unable to "heal the planet." Yet, during a campaign rally on Saturday he suggested "peace on the planet" might depend on his own victory in the upcoming elections.
Speaking at a rally in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday, Romney stirred up the crowd by highlighting the importance of the November election, saying "peace on the planet depends on it," The Hill reported.
"President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans, and to heal the planet," Romney said Thursday night at the Republican National Convention, to laughter from the GOP crowd. "My promise is to help you and your family."
GOP vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan had also criticized Obama for making "lofty promises" as a candidate that he broke as president.
One of those broken promises, he said, was the promise to unite the country so there would no longer be "red states" or "blue states" but just the United States of America.
Instead, the country has become even more divisive under Obama, Ryan said, according to The Hill.
Ryan continued to state that as governor of Massachusetts, Romney worked with the majority-Democratic state legislature, and would therefore not "demonize" the other side as president.
Ryan urged swing state voters to remember their importance in the upcoming election. "If Florida goes the right way, America goes the right way," he said.
