Israeli citizens can, for the first time, record and send a video greeting via Facebook to President Shimon Peres, in honor of his 89th birthday, which he will celebrate on Thursday.

Israelis are invited to log onto Peres’ Facebook page and record themselves as they wish the President a happy birthday. The recorded video greetings will automatically be combined into one video using a special fast and friendly algorithm.

Every five recorded birthday greetings will be integrated to form one greeting, to which music will be added and which will be uploaded to Peres’ Facebook page. So far, dozens of videos featuring children, youth and adults greeting the President have been uploaded and can be viewed on the president's Facebook page.

Five Israeli start-ups have gotten together to create the unique computer technology whereby anyone can record a video greeting which instantly becomes a musical clip.

Peres officially launched his Facebook page several months ago, during a visit to the World Facebook headquarters in Palo Alto.

Peres kicked off his page along with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. He also launched a "Be My Friend for Peace" campaign, which invited Facebook users to offer ideas promoting peace.

Peres, who is considered one of the statesmen who are most active online, also has a YouTube page which he launched two years ago, and has also recently began to actively use Instagram and Twitter.
