A small Utah town’s Independence Day parade included a “Farewell to Obama” float that was great entertainment but angered some people for being in “bad taste.”
The parade in the town of Huntsville, Utah, home to a grand total of 800 people, attracted 7,000 people. One sign in the parade read, “Huntsville Welcomes Obama’s Farewell Tour?” and “Ask about our assault gun plan. Call Eric Holder.”
Town officials said they would not have approved the float if they had known about it ahead of time, but their claims were too late to limit the damage after the media spread the message and the Secret Service went into action.
County Sheriff Lt. Mark Lowther told Fox 13 News his department contacted the Secret Service after some people saw the float’s sign as being a direct threat on the president’s life. Secret Service talked to the deputy sheriff, but no known action was taken.
One resident said the event was a local affair and the media’s presence only caused problems. “We didn’t want publicity,” he said.
