Renowned Middle East expert Dr. Mordechai Kedar says that democracy has brought Islamists to power throughout the Middle East and that Israel needs to adopt a tough posture vis-à-vis its transformed neighbors.
Kedar told Arutz Sheva that if the deal for Gilad Shalit had not been signed, it is possible that the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt would have pressured Hamas to make a deal with Israel. This runs contrary to the line of thought that the deal had to be concluded after the toppling of Hosni Mubarak because otherwise, Hamas would never have handed over Shalit.
