Former U.S. president Bill Clinton and current Secretary of State Hillary are due their version of a "mazal tov" on the announcement that their only daughter, Chelsea, has become engaged to her longtime boyfriend, 31-year-old Jewish investment banker Marc Mezvinsky.

An e-mail sent following the Thanksgiving holiday confirmed reports Friday, with the interfaith pair aiming for a summer wedding.

While it does not appear that Chelsea will be converting to Judaism, she was seen accompanying Marc to Yom Kippur prayer services in September at the Conservative movement's Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. She was raised a Methodist, though her father is a Southern Baptist.

Marc is the son of former Pennsylvania congresswoman Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky and former Iowa congressman Ed Mezvinsky, longtime friends of the Clintons. Ed Mezvinsky served almost five years in prison for bank, mail, and wire-fraud via a Nigerian e-mail scheme, and was released last year

Despite Chelsea's apparent willingness to support her husband's Jewish identity, the depth of their Jewish practice may be hampered by strong anti-religious sentiments in Marc's family.

His father's brother, Norton Mezvinsky, a professor of history at Central Connecticut State University, is a hardcore anti-Zionist, authoring a book in the 1970s called "Documents from Israel, 1967-73: Readings for a Critique of Zionism." More recently, Mezvinsky co-wrote "Jewish Fundamentalism in Israel" with Israel Shahak, a scathing condemnation of religious Jews in Israel. In the book, Shahak - to whom former Grand Wizard of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan dedicated a different book - and Mezvinsky accused Orthodox Jews of being totalitarian, disproportionately powerful in Israel, and dangerous.

The Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA) also noted numerous factual inaccuracies contained in the book.

Chelsea and Marc met as teenagers in Washington, and attended Stanford University together. He works at the Manhattan hedge fund G3 Capital, and Chelsea is studying for a graduate degree at Columbia University's School of Public Health.
