It was the US in 1956 under the direction of Eisenhower who ordered Britain, France and Israel to stop operations. More specifically, the British had already pulled out, basically blaming Israel for the attack. The US threatened massive economic sanctions against Israel if B-G did not unilaterally remove occupying forces from Sinai. This would have/could have destroyed Israel\'s tiny economy at the time. In other words, the US indirectly saved Nasser, who might have been overthrown had Israel remained in Sinai in \'57 and beyond, as she should have. Otherwise, superb writing.");

A force of Israeli commandos from Shayyetet 13 and Sayyeret Matkal attacked Green Island, in the Red Sea between Israeli-held Sinai Desert and Egypt, just south of the Suez Canal. Green Island was a fortress island, built by the British during the Second World War, and in 1969 held by Egyptian special forces.\n\nThe island should have been impregnable. It was defended by about 200 Egyptian soldiers, and attacked by 40 Israeli commandos, who had to arrive underwater to avoid detection.\n\nThe Israeli commandos, after crossing the sea undetected and landing literally under the noses of the Egyptian troops, captured the Egyptian fortress briefly, occupied most of the island, blew the fortress up, destroyed its installations, then withdrew.\n\nThe Israeli attack cost Israel 6 killed and between 8 and 14 wounded (depending on which account you read); between 70 and 80 Egyptian soldiers were killed.\n\nThis raid is universally recognised as not only one of the most daring raids that the Israeli Army ever mounted, but one of the most daring commando raids ever carried out in history.\n\nIndeed, the details were all classified for a quarter of a century after the event, and even today, much of what really happened that night remains top secret.");

Now tie it in to what is said elsewhere on Arutz7 today, about the pronouncements of the PA (no news, but a good reminder). There is another Nasser (Nasr-Allah), who has been attempting inroads into Israel. Tie it all together and the puzzle will fit. Moreover, there is also a pattern to the operations of the original Egyptian cells (Muslim brotherhood) in Europe, in Afghanistan/Pakistan, and in Jordan, Israel and Lebanon. They work from the inside out, like worms. There are all sorts of arguments and pretentions, but the real objective is crusading. They are not pitiful, there is nothing we HAVE to understand, and they gather in apartmentbuildings for convenience.");
