AddReply(463705,"A good idea, but it needs reinforcements","Michelle","Vancouver","07/13/09","I\'m afraid that this particular effort to deal with the refugee problem - although it should continue and be expanded - may be too little too late.\n\nPerhaps the issue should be tackled the other way around:  annex Yesha first and then deal with the refugees.  \n\nYou need at least 10 years to discuss, persuade, agree, and process millions of Arabs who claim refugee status.\n\nBut you don\'t have ten years to defend Yesha.  You have weeks, months at best.  The wolves are at the door already and you don\'t have a single ally who can make a real difference.\n\nTwo main problems:  \n\n1) The USA has at least a couple of generations that have grown with a steady diet of anti-Israel reporting and propaganda.  There are some pockets of sympathizers among the Evangelical and some right wing gentiles.  But the Jews... forget it.\n\n2)  The Israelis are happy, happy, happy with Bibi.  So say the polls.  \n\nAnd Bibi - in spite of what you may believe - is leading you right into Obama\'s Two-State Solution, with a wink to Kadima and the left he has courted so assiduously since the election.\n\nThere\'s urgent need for an Israeli-made solution.  And for a demand that Arab refugees be treated like any other refugee - no privileged treatment, no truckloads of EU money while other world refugees starve and suffer abuse.  \n\nBut this should be more than a project carried out behind the scenes.\n\nWhat you need is a strong PM who goes on the offensive instead of cowering in a corner begging for just one little bit of land.\n\nYou need a PM who brings out all your diplomatic and legal ammunition, starting with the Balfour Declaration, the League of Nations Mandate Agreement, the documents that bind the USA to a promise to return Palestine to the Jews, followed by demands that the United Nations dismantle UNRWA for being discriminatory, and by a demand that those refugees be given a home in Arab countries.  \n\nIsrael needs to confront the countries that are throwing accusations at Israel by turning the tables on them by accusing them of never having apologized for their crimes against Jews, for their expulsions, their pogroms, their confiscation of Jewish wealth, and for never having compensated Jews for those crimes.\n\nAnd very specially, go on the offensive accusing Britain of having violated the spirit and the letter of the League of Nations Mandate by stealing land from the Jews to give it to the Arabs.\n\nWhy hasn\'t Britain ever been made to answer for those violations and for the crimes against Palestinian and European Jews during the Holocaust?\n\nAll this non-governmental, behind-the-scenes approach to secure the rights of Israel will be of little use unless it\'s backed by a loud and aggressive attitude by the Israeli government.  \n\nIf the Israeli government continues to show fear, weakness, it will continue to be bullied until there\'s nothing left of Israel. \n\nIf such aggressiveness may seem shocking to Israelis, just take a look at how countries, and even terror groups that lack Israeli legitimacy and historical background, have the gumption to stand up to the big powers and make demands.  They get respect. Israel doesn\'t.\n\nA few things that could be done by Israel without the need to obtain anyone\'s permission:\n\n1)  Open the Gaza blockade just enough to allow Gazans to emigrate.  Let them go to Eurabia.  Or wherever.\n\n2)  Enforce a law that makes it illegal for any PA authority or individual to threaten Arabs who want to sell their land to Jews.  Furthermore, compensate generously any Arab - Israeli or PA - who sells his property to Jews and give them the proper documents and financial aid to resettle in Eurabia.\n\n3)  Enforce your own laws and make it a severe (and expensive) offense for Israelis to hire illegal Arabs or Africans or any other non-Israeli.  \n\nFinally, a question:  why not approach the MKs with Benny Elon\'s plan?  Why not sell it at home first?\n\nIt is my impression that many Israelis go along with the surrender of Yesha not because they want to, but because they see no other alternative to a One-State Solution where Jews would be overwhelmed by an Arab majority.\n  ");
