AddReply(461816,"Here\'s a column about the reliance on foreigners to impose a solution","Michelle","Vancouver","07/08/09","The problems with anti-Jewish law enforcement in Judea and Samaria are the reflection of the fact that it\'s the US that calls the shots in Israel and determines how you run your country, including the application of the law.\n\nThe left is desperate. They lost the elections so they are trying to increase the influence of foreign Big Bullies to do their bidding and bypass the elected government.  Although it\'s not only the left, but way too many Israelis who regard foreign meddling into their affairs as \"NORMAL\".\n\nAfter I wrote the previous talkback I happened to read the following column on the Jerusalem Post, which gives background to this increased reliance on foreigners to solve Israeli problems. \n\n\"Begging for Internationalization\", by Seth J. Frantzman\n\nHe writes:\n\nThe belief that international pressure is a godsend is quite widespread. \n\nJust after Israel\'s 2009 elections, Prof. Neve Gordon of Ben-Gurion University declared it was time for the US under Barack Obama to impose a solution on Israel, and \"if such intervention includes sanctions, it is the only way to secure Israel\'s existence in the long run.\" \n\nThe latest manifestation of this was Haaretz political columnist Akiva Eldar\'s June 29 call for Obama to \"play on Israel\'s fears, not its hopes for peace.... The time has come for him to directly address the Israelis, bypassing their leadership.\" \n\nSometimes the interest in international pressure can be downright crude, as when Haaretz editor David Landau told Condoleezza Rice in September 2007 that he believed the US needed to \"rape\" Israel. According to reports he \"referred to Israel as a \'failed state\' politically, one in need of a US-imposed settlement.\" \n\nThose on the Left who call for this have declared that while they acknowledge the failure of their political parties in 2009, they need foreigners to impose a solution. \n\nIn turning to outsiders, these voices are anti-democrats. It is interesting that some of the country\'s elite would trust the same nations who perpetrated the Holocaust to be fair arbitrators of the current conflict. \n\n\nhttp://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1246443745841&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull\n");

And we talk, and write, and talk some more.\n\n-  And we despair.  At the errors committed, the harm done, the lack of understanding or sympathy by Jews and non-Jews. \n\nI have such immense love, admiration and respect for all of you that I don\'t want my words to be misinterpreted.  I\'m not minimizing the complexity of the situation or the very real anxiety for what may lie ahead.\n\nWhat I feel is a deep sense of despair at seeing a chronic recurrence of failed attitudes, methods and expectations in the face of catastrophe.\n\nSome examples:\n\n-  Hope that someone out there in the world will care and save you.  A Republican president?  A repentant Obama?  \n\n-  Hope that an elected Israeli leader - such as Netanyahu - will regret past mistakes, mend his ways, and do what is logically and morally right.  \n\n-  Hope that all those studies, columns, books and speeches will make a dent on the mindset of those who are determined to:  a) dismantle Yesha, or b) dismantle all of Israel.\n\nBut there are things that would make a difference:\n\nTAKE POWER BACK.  At this moment IT\'S ALL ABOUT POWER.  It\'s not about reasoning with Bibi or with Obama or anyone else.  The time for reasoning is past.\n\n1)  Zero in on Likud and Netanyahu. Pressure the MKs to demand a radical move away from the Roadmap. If Bibi fails to listen, go on to Plan B - his replacement as leader of Likud.\n\n2) Use all your ammunition. It\'s true that the world is not swayed by the righteousness of your cause.  But as you have noticed, they do keep citing UN Resolutions and Roadmap Agreements...  Well, turn those weapons against them.  \n\nUse the legal power of the Balfour Declaration, the League of Nations Mandate - documents still valid today - and show that Israel has the legal right to the land.  There must be more than one talented lawyer in Israel to argue your case.  \n\nTurn the tables on your enemies.  If it\'s about legal agreements, you\'ve got the Mother of All Agreements.  Use it.\n\nAnd then do something unusual:  Demand that your PM stand his ground.  What\'s the worst that could happen?  What\'s worse than losing your heartland and the setting up of a murderous regime within sight of your populated areas?\n\nHurry up!  Obama gave you two years to surrender Yesha or else.  That was months ago. The time for using logical persuasion and moral arguments is over.  Go on the political and legal warpath.  \n\nDon\'t wait until the day when the US, EU and UN will IMPOSE A SOLUTION ON YOU.  There is already talk of doing just that.  \n\nYour best chance is in taking real political power now.  Easier said than done, but what other choice is there?  With enough time it would be the unification of the right wing for the next election.  That\'d be nice, but I\'m afraid there\'s not enough time anymore.\n");
