AddReply(450316,"Calev and Yehoshua (& the 10 Spies)","Lucy","Amsterdam","06/14/09","HaShem had revealed Himself to Avraham. Avraham and Sarah listened to His Voice and obeyed to what He said.  It was \'controversial\'  then.  Maybe one could say (in popular terms) that Avraham sometimes had a  \'love-hate\' relationship with his environment, although he had friend an allies; because of his faith, he was \'on his own\'; he did not fit into any other \'group\'.    The existence of the State of Israel is \'still even now\' controversial.  HaShem said to Avraham, \'Lech Lecha\' (go to a land that I will show you),  Avraham would be a Blessing.   He and his wife Sarah were singled out, to be a Blessing.  The Blessing has manifold facets,  which other nations do not possess.  This will become clear, all the more when the nations will be likely to slip  into confusion. \nThe nations already have received so much of the Blessings which are derived only from the G-d of Avraham and Sarah, although the nations would be slow to admit \'that\' - the whole progress of Western Society is based on the Avrahamic Blessing. This is because of the presence of the Jews and also of the Israelites in Western Nations, and because of the Tenakh (from which the Bible has been \'derived\')- The Tanakh is the Source of  knowledge and of inspiration, on which Western Societies were able to be built and developed.  \'This\' has also  led to all the inventions which led to prosperity in Western Nations. It is all derived from the Blessing of Avraham, to whom G-d said, \'Lech lech\' (go to a    land that I will show you).\n\nAfter a while the Nations  will not be able to take and do not give anything back in a proper and dignified way´. They will not be able to borrow any more Blessing, unless asked for in a polite way and in the name of the G-d  of Avraham. \nThat which you borrow and don\'t give back, it was already not feasible at the time of Avraham.  A person   who has a house full of books which he has borrowed and keeps for himself, without any questions about whether it is right or moral to keep them, will get some knowledge because of the books, but no real joy, \'wisdom\' or inspiration. These ingredients are needed to maintain a society, certainly, a society which is built on these \'ingredients\'.\n\nThe \'fact\' that Israel has had to survive, and has been able to assert itself without too much help from the nations, and hardly \'complained\' about \'everything\', even \'gives\' when it can (for example, when a country suffers fron an earthquake , then   Israeli experts and help-teams  are at the site of the disaster, to help), shows its leadership. \n\nEvery person, and every nation, has its faults, mistakes, so does Israel. Yet overall, it is clear, that there is no \'comparison\', there is also no other nation, which started to exist again after 2000 years.\nIsrael can know that it does not have to accept \'charlatans\' who do not only pretend that they can have their \'say\', but also in the \'process\' try to destroy, what has been sweated, suffered, and fought for. \n\nBefore and at the time of the Exodus from Egypt,  G-d  had seen that the inhabitants of Canaan were wicked. That is \'why\' the Divine Decree had already been stated,  that Israel was allowed to enter and posses her Inheritance, the land of \'Canaan\'.  \n\nWe can read in the Tanakh that the Almighty measured the amount of wickedness of the Canaanites.  \n\nHe might also do these kind of things \'now\', concerning the wickedness of nations, who received their blessings through the G-d of Avraham, but who subtly use the blessings, against the descendants of Avraham, and against the faith of Avraham and Sarah, the forefathers of the Jewish People. \nThey \'borrowed books\', (I don\'t know another comparison for an example of the immorality of the nations), read them, used the knowledge therein and the blessings which resulted from \'the books\',they stopped to grow in wisdom, did not show any gratitude to the real owners, kept the books as if they were theirs, as if they had written them, and used the blessings which had resulted from the books, against the writers, and against their G-d. \n\nThis is the attitude of  Western Nations (of their Governments and of most of their inhabitants).\n\nThe wickedness of the Canaanites at time when G-d called Moshe, probably consisted of a very evil kind of idol-worship human sacrifice and sexual immorality. They knew that this was against every moral code.  \nThe nations in general of the present-day world know what is against every moral code, maybe especially Western nations, who know their \'history\' even though they may be \'too busy\' to realize \'this\'.\n\nG-d had to destroy the city of Sodom because of its immorality. Avraham prayed and asked Him to spare Sodom, but in the eyes of G-d there were not enough righteous people in Sodom. That Sodom was destroyed (by sulphur), can be proven. Avraham also had in mind that his relative  (Lot) lived in Sodom.\n\nIn Israel, there are many righteous people. Their righteousness increasingly exceeds that of those that oppress them.\n\nI \'asked\' \'Wikipedia\' about \'morality\', and it does not give a clear definition of \'what it is\'.  It mainly gives a variety of philosophical explanations.  (It  does not mention the Torah in relation to morality, one would not expect \'Wikipedia\' to do that).   Morality develops out of Relationship with HaShem, but every human being has also been given a conscience on an idividual basis, which can serve as a guide to moral conduct. \nIt is possible that some nations at the time of Yehoshua and Calev had a more accurate and a more clearly defined description (than \'Wikipedia\') of what \'morality\' is, although there was also much injustice to be found in these nations.\nI am not sure if the highly civilized Western Societies will be able to maintain their civilization. That could be because of \'blessings, abused by borrowing Jewish books, never given back to their owners\'  and \'harrassing Israel on top of everything\'. \n\nThe Canaanites at the time of Moshe, Yehoshua and Calev did not live up to universally accepted moral standards of that time. \nExamples of (and proof of the fact that there were ) more or less universally accepted moral codes in the Middle-East at the time of Avraham, can be read in the Tanakh itself, e.g. in the Book of Bereyshit (Genesis)\n\nMaybe HaShem (in some ways) makes a difference between sins of the nations that reside within the boundaries of the Land, and sins of nations that reside without the boundaries of Israel. \nOne righteous person, Avraham, prayed for Sodom, there were not enough righteous people in and it was destroyed. Later the prophet Yonah was sent to Nineveh, and the city was saved. Maybe it could also repent and be saved because Avraham had prayed for Sodom first, and maybe because it remembered that Sodom had been destroyed after it did not repent\n\nThe immorality of anti-Semitism has not yet led to the disintegration of the nations who are guitly of it, but this is very likely to happen. HaShem says to Israel, \'maintain justice and  mercy\'.  That must be his \'order of things\', (justice first) because human nature does not always respond to \'mercy\', at first.  Justice must always be around in a clear way, in order for many people to behave in a proper manner\n\nwhy did the 10 spies sin by giving a bad report and rejectthe Land G-d decreed. \nMaybe 10 of the 12 spies were more likely to fall into the sin of unbelief because there was a breach between them and the people which they represented; a breach of knowledge, inspiration and of interaction - between themselves and the Tribes, which they represented.  \nIf people are frustrated, if they have an \'empty feeling\', then they can start to eat all kinds of unhealthy snacks.  Maybe it is a strange comparison. But I mean to say that the 10 Tribes might not have known how to be filled with Torah Knowledge in such a way, that they would not \'drift off\'  to having other things on their minds, e.g. only their daily needs, problems, and maybe frustrations and some quarrels.  \nOn a superficial level, it looks as if most people identify with some of this.\nHaShem provided everyone with food in the desert, and the sandals of the Israelites did not wear out. The Divine Presence was more \n\'real\'.  This apparently did not make, that people cannot \'drift off\', spiritually. One also has to choose to stay in touch with HaShem,   in order to be able to see which Miracles He had already performed, and how He wanted to lead and guide them; in order to speak amongst themselves about Him in a positive way, would have helped them to realize it. \nIf the people of the 10 Tribes would have been more prepared spiritually then they could have \'worked together\' with those who represented them; they could have inspired ,supported, and help instruct those that represent them. \n\nJust a \'thought\'; I feel that it might work that way, and that HaShem  made people to function in the way that they do, (together, each in his own place much with much, and an interactive kind of wisdom), \nSomehow the 10 spies may have been unable to realize, that Avraham and Sarah, their \'father and mother\' sojourned in Canaan as a preparation for them to come home. Avraham and Sarah wanted them to study the Torah and be inspired, to communicate with HaShem on a personal basis, which is a creative (and interactive)  process.  This interactivity started in a home, that of Avraham and Sarah.  \nIf that is so, (the 10 Tribes and their leaders)  failed to realize and to internalize all this), then I wonder what had caused this lack of realization which might have led to the sin of the unbelief of the 10 spies. One cause may have been \'speech\' by their environment (possibly within the Tribes which they represented); negative speech amongst themselves and in their communities, which they listened to.  And if negative speech caused unbelief, I wonder what started that. Sometimes negative speech and lack of unbelief can be caused by negative experiences. The Tribes had been slaves in Egypt for a long time. \nThe heads of those Tribes would have been less likely to sin, if the other people whom they represented, would have been motivated  and would have (been able) to inspire them, would have wanted them to come back with a good report \n\nI know, this is a different \'feedback\', yet it might be valuable to also try to look  in this way \n\nThe ten spies and Yehoshua are also the \'lost Tribes\', please see Brit-Am on the possible whereabouts of the Lost Ten Tribes)\n\nAfter having been seeing people all by himself on an individual basis, Moshe Rabbeynu instituted \'elders\'  (with the Presence of HaShem as his Guide).\nPeople had come to Moshe with their problems. Jethro his father in law, suggested that he should appoint elders instead of seeing people on an individual basis. This could tell us that many things had not been \'settled\', \'institutionalized\' (the latter may be the wrong word...I mean in an inspiring and in a G-d\'ly way).  Are there things which can be  \'solved in a better way\', instead of  assuming that everything was as we read it, and conclusions, wise changes cannot be made?\nWhat, if even the elders would not have been necessary any more in the long run?  If the people themselves would have so much Torah-knowledge and motivation, to solve problems amongst themselves, although the intermediary role of Levites is also necessary\n\nYehoshua and Celev are from the Tribes of Yoyseph and Yehudah.  They were close to Moshe Rabbeynu, and learned from him. There must have been a reason for this; maybe they had a certain level of integrity and of receptivity\n\nIt may not imply, that valuable lesson cannot be drawn.  I am almost sure that HaShem would have preferred that 12 spies came back with a good report\nWith instruction through Moshe Rabbeynu Yehoshua  and Celev could be inspired, motivated in the right way\n\nHow the USA seems to try to \'impress\' an American President, so that \'concessions, agreements\' can be made, \'Israeli land can be given away\'.  If the following story is really true, I don\'t know;  I heard it on Temple Talk radio on Arutz-Sheva. \nSome thoughts in general pertaining to \'gold\'. (it also symbolizes severity);  Gold is a metal which can be found in nature. If one is short of money, then to possess some \'gold\' to pay one\'s bills, that could be handy. Men also give golden earrings to their wives, etc. We all know, what gold represents in cultural terms.\nAll things created have only one Source, the Creator of all things, Who is the G-d of Israel, Who watches over Israel\nIf Mr. Natanayhu ate from golden plates in the White House, (\'only taken out three times in the history of the White House) - not realizing that it was all for a purpose so that he would comply with some \'agreement\' in a \'moment of \'gratefulness\', because the golden plates had only been taken out three times, now they are put on the table \'for him\'  (I\'m not sure if that happened, but I suppose that something along these lines could have happened), - then maybe Mr. Natanyahu, - if he were impressed by this \'gesture\'-  could realize, that the prosperity in the West, which has spread to the rest of the world, has only been derived from the Blessings of the G-d of Avraham, who gave us the Tanakh as a Light and as a Guide. This is how the Western World (even if it was partially by means of \'the Bible\', the Tanach is still the real Source) prospered.\nIf an Israeli President would come to the White House, and the Tanakh, and holy Jewish books, also one very special and rare and holy Zohar, were put on the shelves for the occasion of the visit of the Israeli President, what would he think then?  He might then think, \'these books are part of my Inheritance, although I don\'t own these particular ones which the White House bought.   \nThe golden plates are put on the table at the White House, they might be part of some \'trick\'; maybe a \'cheap trick\'. \nIf there had been material poverty in the White House, and if golden plates were bought for Israeli visitors in order to \'show the mutual friendship\', without an \'agenda\' (that  of wanting to have something from Israel, this  would look just like a real \'marketplace\' but like a very questionable one), then the underlying motives would have been more pure (as gold usually is, \'pure as gold\')\nThe plates also even went back in the cupboard, they were not  given to \'Mr. Natanyahu\' so that he could \'take them home\' (if he would have wanted to do so, I would doubt that too). After the golden plates were in the cupboard, another Israeli concession had been made, that\'s why the White House took the plates out of the cupboard. \n\nAnd  by the way, lovely hand-craffed Israeli plates may be homier and nicer to look at and to eat from \n\nKalev, \'dog\', to me it means faithfulness, and if the situation requires it, \'Kelev\' c a n \'Bark\'!\n\nYehoshuah, HaShem Saves Israel");

While meeting with President Obama I ask that you express to him that millions of America\'s citizens, both Jewish and Christian, are standing with you and will continue to let our voices be heard over the superficial political rhetoric being trumpeted out of Washington.   We are standing with Israel and will not be moved from that stance.  \nPresident Obama does not have your best interest in mind.  His is only the expediency of peace at Israel\'s cost and a boost to his reputation among the world leaders who hate Israel!   Please take a strong stand for your nation and do not allow Washington politics to creep into your country\'s policies. We fully understand the critical danger your country is in and you cannot afford to give an inch for your enemy\'s gain.  You are experiencing just that with the Gaza Strip.  You have neighbors that not only wish you to be destroyed but now are on their way to the nuclear capability to try to do just that. \nOur prayers and support are with you.  We pray for the Peace of Jerusalem and the protection of your nation daily and will continue to do so. I am praying that G-D gives you the wisdom of Solomon and the heart of David. The emphasis is on economic needs of the Palestinians and the intertwining of Palestinians and Israeli economies and economic/financial interests. For both Israelis and Palestinians to thrive Peace is necessary. To have Peace the first requirement is stopping incitement, what is being taught in schools and mosques and whispered, sometimes spoken loudly and obnoxiously, in the marketplace. Loud yelling @ the fishmarket is fine, be it unpleasant. Coming over to tip over the other\'s stall and damage the fish, sothat it can not be sold, is not acceptable pracctice.");
