These Jews are have not been refugees in Israel, but settled as citizens. \n\nIf Arabs want to keep their own brethren who call themselves \'Palestinians\' as refugees in Arab nations, why should Israel even have to absorb them and accommodate them in the sliver of the Land of Israel? \n\nWhy should Israel even give any compensation to these Arab squatters who have occupied the land that was allotted to the Jews according to the Balfour Declaration of 1917? So what is this question of Israel retreating back to the 1967 line? Isn\'t that a stupid demand made by Arabs who wish we forget the history, and the West who are ignorant of the history? \n\nThro’ the UN the Pal-Arabs have raked up billions of dollars. If you want to defeat your enemy you must understand and speak their language.\n\nIdeally - if Israeli leaders had any backbone and self-respect - they would only need the LAW, I\'ll grant you that.\n\nBut they don\'t. \n\nMike, I don\'t see ANY chance of any of the current leaders standing up to foreign meddling powers and telling them to get lost. That isn\'t going to happen.\n\nSo all we can do from this platform is to encourage Israelis to bring up documentation that binds those powers to respect the present Israeli borders.\n\nThey - the British and the Americans - have a self-image of being honorable and law-abiding countries. \n\nWell, not always....We know better but we should use their self-delusion against them. We ought to tell them: Here are the legal documents. You signed them. You can\'t renege on them. It\'s a matter of HONOR.\n\nAnd Mike, if all fails, there is the one last resort - two letters N-O. Which ought to have been Israeli policy from the start. But through passivity Israel allowed the UK and US to get addicted to pushing Israel around. And I\'m not using the word \"addicted\" lightly here. \n\nSo - Israeli leaders would say - the answer is NO. Israel refuses to be partitioned into separate pieces (remember the land corridor to Gaza dividing Israel in two), refuses to lose its ancient sacred capital, refuses to turn itself into a vulnerable mini-state that could be invaded within in 1 minute from all sides.\n\nAnd regarding the Israeli state, unlike you, I believe we need one. The idea of a federation is a logical solution to accommodate all Jews. No need to throw the seculars into the sea....\n\nThe world is getting increasingly hostile and Jews will need a refuge, whether they are religious or not. They have NO moral or legal right to interfere in Israel!!!!\n\nMr Wilder, may I post here a column by Ted Belman regarding some of the agreements that the US has \"forgotten\" too.\n\nAMERICA, HONOR YOUR AGREEMENTS - by Ted Belman\n\nMyths and Facts\n\nThe current U.S. administration that is so persistent on the need to honor ‘past agreements’ seems to ignore unwavering support for reconstructing the Jewish national home in Palestine by our past presidents and both Houses of Congress: \n\nU.S. Resolution 322: A joint resolution of both Houses of Congress unanimously endorsed the “Mandate for Palestine,” confirming the irrevocable right of Jews to settle in the area of Palestine - anywhere between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. June 30, 1922.\n\nPresident Woodrow Wilson: “I am persuaded that the Allied nations, with the fullest concurrence of our own government and people, are agreed that in Palestine shall be laid the foundation of a Jewish Commonwealth.” March 3, 1919.\n\nPresident Warren G. Harding: Signed the Lodge-Fish joint resolution of approval to establish a Jewish homeland in Palestine. September 21, 1922.\n\nPresident Calvin Coolidge: Signed the Convention between the United States and Great Britain in respect to British rights in Palestine. The convention was ratified by the Senate on February 20, 1925, and by the president on March 2, 1925. The Convention was proclaimed on December 5, 1925. The convention’s text incorporated the “Mandate for Palestine ” text, including the preamble. \n\nBy doing so, the U.S. government recognized and confirmed the irrevocable right of Jews to settle in the area of Palestine - anywhere between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea – as is spelled out in the Mandate document.\n\nThe following text was selected from the U.S. Congressional Record (1922) and exhibits the powerful sense of the Member of Congress in favor of reestablishing the Jewish national home in Palestine:\n\n“Palestine of to-day, the land we now know as Palestine, was peopled by the Jews from the dawn of history until the Roman era. It is the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people. They were driven from it by force by the relentless Roman military machine and for centuries prevented from returning.\n\n“At different periods various alien people succeeded them, but the Jewish race had left an indelible impress upon the land. To-day it is a Jewish country. Every name, every landmark, every monument, and every trace of whatever civilization remaining there is still Jewish. And it has ever since remained a hope, a longing, as expressed in their prayers for these nearly 2,000 years. \n\nNo other people has ever claimed Palestine as their national home. No other people has ever shown an aptitude or indicated a genuine desire to make it their homeland. The land has been ruled by foreigners. \n\nOnly since the beginning of the modern Zionist effort may it be said that a creative, cultural, and economic force has entered Palestine . \n\nThe Jewish Nation was forced from its natural home. It did not go because it wanted to. A perusal of Jewish history, a reading of Josephus, will convince the most skeptical that the grandest fight that was ever put up against an enemy was put up by the Jew. He never thought of leaving Palestine.\n\n“But he was driven out. But did he, when driven out, give up his hope of getting back? \n\nJewish history and Jewish literature give the answer to that question. The Jew even has a fast day devoted to the day of destruction of the Jewish homeland. Never throughout history did they give up hope of returning there. \n\nI am told that 90 per cent of the Jews to-day are praying for the return of the Jewish people to its own home. \n\nThe best minds among them believe in the necessity of reestablishing the Jewish land. To my mind there is something prophetic in the fact that during the ages no other nation has taken over Palestine and held it in the sense of a homeland; and there is something providential in the fact that for 1,800 years it has remained in desolation as if waiting for the return of its people.”\n\nU.S. Congressional Records 9801 (1922)\n\n\nEnd of T. And it has to be a good proposal, peaceful, humane, and above all, one that respects the law. And the law - in spite of all the rhetoric out there - is on the side of the Jews. (see my next TB on this regard.)\n\nThis proposal is good.\n\nThe idea of a federation of secular and religious Israeli territories is something I have always thought as the best formula for a strong Israel unhindered by the irreconcilable religious-secular dissention. \n\nAlso, before we talk about transfers, what about migration? \n\nThere is that absurd migration blockade in Gaza, for example. \n\nIf there had been support for migration for all Arabs living on Jewish land decades ago, when the European economy was still good, three quarters of them would be gone by now.\n\nIt\'s going to be tougher to get them accepted today. But there\'s Latin America, more anti-Semitic and pro-Arab than ever. Take advantage of that.\n\nThe question is: how will the Jews turn this plan into THE PLAN that will be developed and eventually implemented and transformed into reality. \n\nLike all ideas, it will have to be disseminated, discussed, and supported by influential Israelis and a majority of the population. \n\nIs there already a working group in charge of getting this campaign started?\n\nIt would be a good idea to organize a conference or think tank with nationalist leaders to kick off a campaign for a made-in-Israel plan with NO compromises. \n\nBut the spirit of any plan should be: This plan is NOT subject to any foreign power\'s approval. Israel is a sovereign nation.\n\nDo not legitimize - ever - their illegal attempts to meddle in Israeli affairs. \n\nThe plan should aim to help the government get out of the state of INERTIA and helplessness that has afflicted it for decades, making it vulnerable to foreign pressure.\n\nThis plan is feasible.
