AddReply(368605,"if you fail to control the youth, you will lose the war","reizel","","12/05/08","Look beyond the immediate battle. To win this war you must win the support of the Israeli public. This requires intensive PR, both by  outreach & education about the significance of  Hevron to our peole via media & events and by the example of the dignity, righteousness, & strength of your conduct. If we allow or encourage our youth to act without restraint, we not only lose the PR battle, we lose the battle to raise our children to have the strength to control their own yetzer hara.\n\nI am not sure it is either right or productive to refuse to allow the soldiers to daven with the community at the maarat hamachpelah. It does not seem right  to turn away anyone who wants to pray. Also, rejection might allow the soldiers to harden their hearts against you and your cause. Perhaps it would be better to welcome them, integrate them in your minyan and make them feel at home in your community. Set up a situation of dual loyalty; make it difficult for them to throw out the people they are a part of.\n\nIt is true the people of Israel must know that a decision to give up either Yerushalayim or Hevron will cause massive civil revolt. (While everyone recognizes the centrality of Yerushalayim in Judaism, I do not believe either the government or the general Israeli public realize the tremendous significance and importance of Hevron.) Yes, demonstrations across the country are necessary to show the extent of our support and the strength of our convictions, but, we must avoid anarchy or risk scaring away our supporters, alienating the Israeli public, and ultimately losing our youth. \n\n(By the way, Yesha needs a new PR person. The cute little pictures of children dressed like biblical characters look very fake and do nothing to create a connection between the viewer and the land. Maybe photos of people living, playing, celebrating or davening in  actual historic sites with a line about the historic significance of the site would be more effective.)");
