But I also disagree that the American public can influence geopolitical events simply by writing letters to the editor, etc.   Ex: approx 80% of Americans oppose the Iraq war, when confronted Cheney says, \"So?\"  Even though Christians are given the feeling of political power through small victories in the abortion debate circus, the issue is clearly here to stay as an ongoing distraction for those whose attention wanders during Dallas Cowboys halftime report.  For how many appointments by so-called Christian conservative presidents does it take for the Court to interpret the Constitution without seeing penumbra or additional rights embedded in the due process clause?  I am not sure you understand how hard people work to change govt in the face of media blackout with no progress made.  Standing in the way are over 300 million brain-dead Americans for whom TV has become their Sinai or their temple.  No human being has the power to move this mountain, that is why I say that unless God chooses to act on our behalf, it cannot be moved.  But you who decry the \"evil Muslim terrorists\" for killing several thousand seem to want the entire nation of 350 million crushed immediately.   Who are you to know that God has not found righteous people to work through in America?  You look at the brain-dead Americans and impute their condition to every person in the country.  You demand that the few individuals not held captive to the TV make sweeping political and geopolitical changes immediately or you would see us all punished.");

It is as simple as that.  I don\'t know how many people (including observant Jews) have told me over the years, we have no moral obligation to condemn evil or to condemn evil doers; publicly or otherwise.  Thus, according to this rationale, silence in the face of evil is fine, in the sight of God.\n\nBut isn\'t condemning evil and condemning wicked people (especially the powerful) a central theme of the Jewish Bible, the so-called \"Old Testament?\"  Isn\'t this what God required of His prophets? Then one person from Group B does something bad to Group A, rinse and repeat.  The conflict expands as onlookers take sides, identifying the few bad eggs with the whole Group.  Meanwhile it turns out that it was only a few people causing trouble on each side.  In fact most people have their hands full with the basics of life to go looking for trouble.\n\nGroup A may call themselves a collective, but you will find among them the full spectrum of humanity, and the same with Group B. He is very clear about the issue of dividing His land and what He will do to those who try to divide it. Therefore, I don\'t believe He has any problem whatsoever with those who speak out against that very thing. I have no clue why Hagee and Bauer wouldn\'t speak out, and I don\'t care. They like to be pleasing to men, not to God.\n\nI do believe that God is in control and allows all that happens for a reason. It is their right to believe what they will, but why should I ever expect true friendship from those who believe that all Jews are lost until they convert to Christianity? This is nonsensical.\n\nNot only is it nonsensical, it is born out by most of my experiences in the US. I am sure there are many nice sayings in the \'New Testament\', but there is also a bedrock resentment of and dissing of Jews that is a clear result of the evolution of Christianity. Jewish Christians and Jewish Jews went to war over this theological issue, and when Jews fight...but beyond that, Christianity is the marriage between the \'evolved\', already distanced form of Jesus-worship and \'Rome\'; or Constantinople. Official Christianity mutated significantly the minute it became the state religion of Empire, but even Jesus himself demanded that Jews bow to the deified foreign rulers of Israel. There is great irony here, for Judaism is land-contained, Golah notwitshstanding. Judaism aims to mold the life of Jews in the Land of Israel, not to convert others. Well, there are some like Boteach who try to change this. There are also Jewish posters on some sites who try to counter-convert Christians.\n\nThere are multiple problems in relying on Evangelical support.\n\n1. Evangelicals are not Israelis, don\'t live in Israel (except for a small number), and their lives are not at stake.\n\n2. They believe in Replacement Theology, despite the denials.\n\n3. They are eternally frustrated with us for not converting, most that is.\n\nSteve seems bitterly disappointed in his fellow Americans. Many similar explanations in different forms have come since. Steve is not naive, and Joanna should understand that we can never trust Christians. The most Jews in the US or any state outside of Israel can do is trust in the force of civil law, Constitution, etc., which of course explains why so many Jews worship the law, civil rights, etc. Ironically, this too leads in many cases to support of de-facto anti-American and anti-Jewish elements within the US.\n\nThere is only one nation in which Jews can enjoy the majority rights protections that most American Christians take for granted. Sadly, Israeli society has a ways to go to truly accept free speech and political self-determination, especially on the part of nationalists and religious-nationalists. The only reason I mentioned him is that he often likes to say that there are 10s of millions of evangelicals in America who are serious friends of Israel and supporters of Israel. I think he is VERY VERY far off the mark with his numbers and is giving Israelis a false sense of security about all their many many friends in the US. I was showing my general agreement with someone\'s statement (I\'m sorry, I can\'t remember offhand who specifically said it) that Israel has few Christian friends in the US. (It\'s only a general agreement because I think the true number is somewhere between the \"few\" mentioned and the 50  million Hagee and his ilk cite.)\n\nWhat\'s always interesting to me is that when I read the vast majority of news and opinions on A7, I agree wholeheartedly. AddReply(363648,"Top Warning Signs of a Sweepstakes Scam","anon","","11/20/08","By Sandra Grauschopf, About.com\n\nWinning a large sweepstakes prize is a dream come true for many people. However, that dream can quickly turn into a nightmare if the win notification was actually a sweepstakes scam. The consequences of sweepstakes scams can be severe. By learning to recognize the top warning signs of a sweepstakes scam, you can avoid becoming a victim of fraud.\n\n\n1. Sweepstakes Scams Require You Pay to Receive the Prize\nLegitimate sweepstakes will never ask you to pay fees to participate or to receive a prize. You should never have to pay handling charges, service fees, or any other kind of charges up front to receive a win - those are sure signs of sweepstakes scams.\n\nSweepstakes taxes are paid directly to the IRS along with your regular tax return, except for rare exceptions such as paying for port fees or hotel taxes. For more information, read the article, \"Top Questions about Sweepstakes Taxes.\"\n\n2. Sweepstakes Scams Use Free E-mail Accounts\nIt\'s possible that some smaller, legitimate sweepstakes sponsors could notify you with a free email address. But if you receive a win notice claiming to be from a big company like Publishers Clearing House or Microsoft, but the email arrived from a free account like Hotmail or Gmail, you can be sure that you are working with a sweepstakes scam.3. Sweepstakes Scams Tell You You\'ve Won - But You Don\'t Recognize the Contest\nYou can only win sweepstakes that you enter. This is another reason why it makes so much sense to organize your sweepstakes entries; when you receive a notification, you can easily check to make sure that you actually entered that sweep.\n\nTo be absolutely sure, look up the telephone number for the sweepstake sponsor, and call and verify your winnings. Do not use a telephone number given in your win notification unless you can verify that it is legitimate from another source like a phone book.\n\n4. Sweepstakes Scams Send You a Large Check with your Notification\nTo fool people into thinking that a sweepstakes scam is legitimate, many con artists send counterfeit checks along with their phony win notifications. Cashing fraudulent checks is a crime, and you could be liable for fines and even closure of your bank account, as well as losing any money you wire. Legitimate sweepstakes require affidavits before sending out any prize valued at more than $600. \n\nWhy Do I Have to Fill Out an Affidavit After Winning Sweepstakes?\n5. Sweepstakes Scams Instruct You to Wire Money\nCriminals love to use services like Western Union to receive illicit funds, because it is nearly impossible to trace who received the money. Western Union transfers are handled like cash, and it is nearly impossible to get back any money that you send to con artists in this way. In the few cases where you have to pay money to a sponsor, you would not be required to use a wire service.\n\n6. Sweepstakes Scams Pressure You to Act in a Hurry\nSweepstakes scammers have a very good reason for wanting you to act quickly: they want to ensure that they receive their money before their check bounces or you read an article like this one and realize that you are being defrauded. If you feel like you are being pressured to make a decision before you have the time to ensure that the win is legitimate, you should be very suspicious. In some cases, a sponsor might need a quick answer (for example, if they are giving away tickets for a concert that weekend), but you should always have at least a few hours to investigate the notification. If there is no good reason for a rush to accept a prize, then it\'s probably a sweepstakes scam.\n\n7. Sweepstakes Scams Require Bank or Credit Card Info to Receive Your Prize\nLegitimate sweepstakes do not send wins by direct deposit, nor do they need to withdraw money from your bank or verify information using your credit card number. The only sensitive information that a legitimate sweepstakes sponsor needs to process your win is a social security number. Asking for a bank account or credit card number is a huge red flag that you are dealing with a sweepstakes scam, and you should never hand over this information.\n\n8. The \"Win\" is From a Lottery\nIt is impossible to win a lottery without buying a ticket, and even in that case, you\'d have to find the winning numbers in a newspaper, the internet, or on TV and compare them to your ticket; the lottery does not contact you to tell you that you won. If your win notification says you\'ve won a lottery, you can be quite sure that it\'s really a sweepstakes scam. \n\nWin notices from foreign lotteries are even more suspicious. Not only do foreign lotteries have the same restriction as domestic lotteries, but it is also illegal to sell tickets for foreign lotteries across international borders. Therefore, unless you were actually in a foreign country and bought a lottery ticket, foreign lottery notifications are surely sweepstakes scams.\n\n9. Sweepstakes Scams Often Don\'t Use Your Name\nEspecially in the case of email win notifications, many sweepstakes scams send thousands upon thousands of fake emails to every address they can get their hands on - often without knowing the name of the people they\'re contacting. If your win notice has a generic salutation like \"Dear Sir\" it\'s a good indication that it\'s a sweepstakes scam.10. Sweepstakes Scams Can Pose As Government Organizations\nTo appear more legitimate, some sweepstakes scams pretend to come from government organizations such as the FTC or the \"National Sweepstakes Board\" (which doesn\'t actually exist). Real sweepstakes sponsors, however, send their win notifications directly to the winners. Government organizations are not involved in awarding sweepstakes prizes.\n\n11. Sweepstakes Scam Notifications Are Usually Sent Via Bulk Mail\nWhen a legitimate sweepstakes sponsor sends out win notifications, they want to ensure that the information arrives at the winners\' doors in a reasonable amount of time. To make sure this happens, they use first class postage or services such as FedEx or UPS to deliver notifications. (Read more about prize notification methods.)\n\nSweepstakes scam artists, on the other hand, want to target the most people for the least cost in order to keep their profits high. They send scam letters out by bulk mail to take advantage of the postage savings. For this reason, you should never trust a win notification that arrives by bulk mail.\n\n12. Sweepstakes Scams Contain Many Typos\nIt\'s possible that any company could make a mistake when typing out a win notification. However, glaring errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation should set off red flags in your mind. Many sweepstakes scams originate outside of the United States and Canada and are created by people with poor command of the language. Be very cautious of any win notices that have a lot of errors.");
