It doesn\'t.  It\'s a modern innovation, and it is falling apart due to financial and practical necessity.   Time will heal all wounds.   The charedi will enter more into the work force, more into the army, and gain more BALANCE, for a healthier Torah-committed society.  They will NOT have to give up Torah to do so, to be normal people normal functioning Jews in society.   And this is a good thing and more in line with Torah values than you mistakenly think.  More in line than the current system of the past 20 or 30 years.");

Whether you at this time are living among us or not does not detract an iota of the truth you wrote. As I recall Joshuah was a warrior and who knew Torah better than he.  R. Akiva led a rebellion, and sacraficed 30 thousand students for the cause of Judaism and doing what was right.  Hillel the elder worked, They all worked and studied and fought.  There is no higher value than the Land of Israel and he who would not defend it as a Jewish obligation creates a hillul ha shem.\"Do not stand idly by when your neighbor\'s blood is shed.\" (Sifra) Leviticus 19:16.lets admit the truth, the vast majority are in those yeshivot to evade serving in the military and are a burden to the general society this also is against Halacha.Turn off the national ATM then see?");

The IDF has two parts: The real Army and the PUATON, the babysitting service. The PUATON are those who have no military function but are there because they have to be. Conservative estimates place the PUATON at 50% of the IDF. Consider what that means in terms of wasted money and resources. That is what happens when there is UCMS. Israel was established by Communists who admired Stalin and attempted to mold Israel into a Stalinist society. This included using the IDF as a primary indoctrination tool. Every solider was required to become a believing Communist and dedicated to the Party. If you do not understand why Torah Jews barricaded themselves in their Yeshivas as a result of this, there is nothing I can say to you about Yeshiva deferments.      ");

AddReply(448041,"to Chava","baruch","Jerusalem","06/09/09","That\'s not true.  True there is a mitzvah on every Jew to learn Torah but even Rav Tzvi Yehuda would say that after 3 or 5 (I can\'t remember which) years, if a talmid isn\'t able to make progress, then he should leave the Yeshivah and get a job.  And on a logical level there is certainly a value on having people as part of Am Yisrael that know a tremendous amount of Torah.  I would say that as a Torah giant someone who is a genius would be of much greater value to the Jewish People than he would as a soldier.  I am sure there is the opposite example where you have someone who possesses such great physical skill that he is more value to us in the Army then he would in the Yeshivah because at the end of the day we are all in this together and it is the sum of our parts that matters most and not the individuals. It troubles me that the hareidim for the most part do not serve in the IDF. If you live in Eretz Yisrael and in addition to the protection of HaShem, am protected by the IDF, it seems only fair that you do your part. Whether you believe that the government is legitimate or not(because it\'s not Torah based) is irrelevant. You accept their protection (IDF), and hence you are duly responsible to do your part. You can still learn Torah and be observant, and do your part to ensure the safety of your country. \n  I myself attended what would be called a hareidi yeshiva here in the US. Yes, it\'s important for the best students\' learning to be encouraged, and it\'s important for all the students to be learning. But, I think it\'s no less important for all the students to be learning than for the top students. It\'s the learning that\'s the mitzvah, not the results. I would suggest something similar to the Hesder program for Chareidim. They would learn. They would serve. And if there always were at least 2 serving together, they\'d have a chavruta even when they were serving. And the IDF would be forced to be very careful with Shabbat & Kashrut. And all the chayalim would get to know other types, maybe helping the unity of Klal Yisrael. Or maybe that wouldn\'t work, & they\'d serve with the nachal chareidi.");
