Shimon Peres, of course, and\n\nbehind him, his buddy:\n\nPOPE BENEDIKT XVI, who needed Peres in an official position where he could sell-out Jerusalem, in particular, Har Tzion, which Katsav, even though the recipient of a tentative agreement to hand-over Har Tzion nicely and quietly, refused to do.\n\nHe therefore had to go, and be replaced by Shimon Peres, who, as soon as he was in Kadima and in the government, rushed to the Vatican within a week to bring the pope a \"letter\" from Olmert; who had a 40 minute audience with the pope during which they discussed the Church properties in Israel at great length. The same Peres who had already promised the pope the internationalization of Jerusalem , and who was very much needed in the president\'s seat. And who now will be escorting the pope with great glee and pride all over Israel. Only Shimon Peres could pull off this feat. Katsav HAD TO go.");

However I am not happy the lack of this is used as an excuse by some for anarchy. Rabinical court (beit din) in Israel has legal authority only over family matters marriage, divorce and custody. Jews who respect the Torah can agree to have disputes judged in rabinical court. By doing so they are making Kidush HaShem. \n\nSuggesting that a corrupt politicians exploit the idea when it might fit his personal needs is making a circus of the Torah.  \n\nAnd why stop with Katzav? Maybe Olmert would also benefit from having his suspected crimes dealt with in beit din. If they can get away with their deeds by becoming fans of the rabbis, surely many convicts will put on their kippas and demand a re-trial. \n\nTruth told, I am sure that when Bezrat haShem the Torah rules in Israel, criminals will not run this country. \n  ");

It is possible that Katzav in the past got a little too familiar with female workers, taking advantage of his position. Nobody ever accused Ketzeleh, Moshe Feiglin or Effi Eitam of such things. I don\'t believe it was rape, however. It was clearly orchestrated by Peres to get elected president, a very similar situation to the fates of Rabin and Sharon. But Katzav is also guilty of silence and equivocation during the expulsion. The secular courts and their dictatorship are also responsible for Arutz-7 not being allowed to broadcast despite a law passed by the Knesset. When Feiglin refused to appeal to the courts over being moved down to an unrealistic position in the Likud list, he knew exactly what he was doing.");

What Joel Bainerman is trying to point out is that in a Beit Din, Katzav\'s accusers would have had to confront him face to face, instead of hiding behind the anonymity of Women\'s Rights organizations, and that the hearing itself would have taken place behind the closed doors of the court instead of in the public arena. If Katzav is indeed found guilty, which will admittedly be difficult after all this time, then he should be put in prison. However, Katzav hasn\'t been tried yet, even in a regular court - isn\'t it a bit early to declare him \"Hilul haShem\" and demand he ask for forgiveness? What happened to \"Innocent until proven guilty\"? In my view, President Katsav has been caused grievous harm for which he must be provided remedy.
