Vast numbers of our murdered and aimed countrymen would still be alive and well had we promptly executed captured terrorists. Captured terrorists should be debriefed, to provide information to prevent other terrorist atrocities, and IMMEDIATELY executed.");

However I think it is almost universally recognized that such spiritual remedies are often NOT ENOUGH. I am no chacham, but I think Jewish  history abounds with examples of Jews having to resort to physical means to prevent their families from being murdered. The Talmud itself demands that if a Jew sees someone coming to kill him, there is an affirmative duty to rise up and kill the anti-semite first. For all their wonderful and enviable qualities and deeds, apparently the Holtzbergs were unprepared to do this, and that must be a reason why they are dead. Jews who expect to remain alive in Hashem\'s world of nature  must master the natural means to stay alive in places where terrorists are coming to kill them. The ability to use a weapon to kill evil can also be a kiddush Hashem.       ");

In other words, rather than dealing with Amalek directly, you seem to counsel passivity.\n\nHow about something more courageous from our rabbis?  You know perfectly well that Islam is a concentration of evil. Why do you stay on the sidelines rather than proclaim this truth?  Why are rabbis not in the forefront of extirpating Amalek via extirpating Islam?\n\nI don\'t know about you, but I think the effect of Jews davening a bit more, or volunteering a bit more, is just about zero.");

Our enemies will never understand, much less reciprocate, the laws of simple human decency and goodness. \n\nSo while I will study more and try to perform more mitzvahs, I will also work to improve my self-defense skills on the shooting range. \n\nIf we don\'t accept the responsibility to protect the lives of ourselves, our families, our people, through both goodness where appropriate and strength where that is appropriate, then we do not understand G-d\'s instructions to us. \n\nAnd once that happens we are truly lost.\n\nSpeaking of lost: When will Israel rescue Gilad Schalit? AddReply(367283,"Another part of the Bible...","Phillip Slepian","New Jersey, USA","12/02/08","As Velvel points out, the Torah is full of examples in which good deeds and kindness are required, but not by themselves. When Israel came to its land, Hashem did not command us to do mitzvot while He wiped out the evil peoples there; He commanded Israel to raise and train an army, and go to war against them! Of course, Torah observance was necessary to insure the success of the military effort, but ACTION by Klal Israel was indeed required. Evil cannot be appeased or \"mitva\'d\" away. Every good person must prepare to fight, with violence, against the evil  Jihad. If it has not affected your home yet, it will. Kahane was right!");

They were counting on it to accomplish their nefarious purposes. I do not suggest we become that hardened G-d forbid, but we, the bearers of light and goodness need to honestly face the reality that there is terrible evil out there and it it aimed directly at us. Evil hates goodness and cannot bear to be in its presence. It rages and rebels at the very idea of kindness and gentleness. It seeks to destroy the light because with it, the evil which seeks to overtake us is exposed. EVil is very real in this World and it takes strength to overcomes it.
