There was approximately 10,000 people in Gush Katif at that point, likely 35% of that being protestors and the rest Gush Katif residents. The leadership of Gush Katif, across the board, both secular and religious, created an environment in which an organized physical battle for the holy homes would have been impossible. I had always agreed with certain community leaders and with the owner of the house I rented, that I would not take it on myself against the will of the community - to have fought effectively for the homes, we would have needed: (1) to have brought in 20-30,000 men over 18; (2) had community/leaders support; and (3) willingness to see Jewish expulsion solider as enemy criminal.");
