I have also read Pamela\'s comment above. Before I returned to live here, I was leaning to - even hoping for - the explanation that US pressure in 2006 might have been more than it seemed. Based on the real, obsessive Rice/Bush policies on the PA, it is easy to go backwards and assign it retroactively to summer 2006. But not so - Israelis have not fought to win in a long time. Much of the public would probably like to, but it\'s clear that a string of govt\'s makes decisions above the heads of the people. So, yes, Israel is vibrant and amazing, and yet there is this invisible choke-hold of defeatist management from the top.
