I understand the Torah sets land purchases on the number of crops are purchased to the Yovel year, but when is it?\n\nOn one hand Jews are criticized for not observing Schmita when they sell crops on the Schmita, but it is not clear exactly how a land purchase can be biblically made without the Yovel year determined.\n\nI like the idea of a program where Jews from abroad purchase the crops during the Schmittah year on condition that the land lie fallow (in other words that seeds planted are not pruned in the fall).  This is a true social agenda where Jews can make food available for the poor who walk by to pick up the crops.
