Emanuel is mostly Haredi and such that most seem dismissive about the flag, etc...yet they take the day off, travel, use Israeli money.  Oh the city flys the flag, put up at the last minute and only handful here and there.  It is only for show.  No ceremonies, nothing.  It is a big shanda.  We live here because it is cheap, but we are thinking of moving.  I think that half of the people here would live under an Arab flag, if they could study Torah and eat.  G-d help us");

We will probably see many tattered flags with that precious orange waving in the wind. WE ourselves,  tossed in the winds of this phenomenal paradox, may feel at times tattered and torn, but we remain strong and resolute. Even in hardship, even if some decide to build a  golden calf, our guiding force is not political or military and never has been, and a miracle remains a miracle. ");

Here in the holy city of Jerusalem with all its festivals trying desperately to forget that NOW is the time that 24,000 of Rabbi Akiva\'s students died in a plague. And we go on celebrating like it is really irrelevant. And the \"datiim\" are debating whether to say Hallel with or without a bracha while those responsible for Amona are being sworn into government with no sense of justice for the victims. As a Jew living amongst the Jew haters, I am keenly aware that Israel is very low down in the pole of a \"PROUD NATION\". The Israel of 67 is long gone replaced by a babble of \"losers\". No amount of self delusiuonal wishfull thinking will change that. My father always said. When the \"chalev will be at your throats\" then you may want to fight back...Isreal you have lost your balls. Ever since we made Aliyah to this country in the 60?s we have made a point of flying as many flags as possible. During the past decade, however, we have found it hard to muster any real enthusiasm for Independence Day. This country has changed so radically before our eyes that we hardly recognize the Israel we once knew. Gone is the feeling of Jewishness, the observance of all the holidays by all of the country?s Jewish citizens, religious and secular. So this year I will hang out one flag - with an orange ribbon for the Israel that was.");
