Christians in PA areas now live under sharia law enduring brutal and relentless persecution. Their human rights destroyed by Oslo/Road Map. These PLO savage murderers were given control of Christians in PA areas. Even in a democracy, semi-authoritarian leaders can emerge, like Lincoln and FDR - yes, the big problem is that democracy and freedom must be fought for continuously - and we in the West have grown fat and lazy and if we don\'t wake up, will get just what we deserve. You are assuming that a king or whatever non democratic leader Israel would have would lead the nation in strength against the Arabs. If a mob of Islamists want to kill Americans, what do you suppose that islamic democratic nation is going to do?  Jihad is always jihad. The solution that the USA has demonstrated carries checks and balances (real ones, unlike the U.N.\'s).  We are (or were, originally) a Republic.  And the Constitution is the glue that holds it all together.  If it becomes easy to change at whim, it destroys the democracy.  A democracy is a house of cards. The Sharanskys and Bush have the better idea of converting our enemies to democracy (I know that is easier said than done) with the expectation that democracies don\'t go to war with each other.  That is the key.  People generally don\'t want war and democracies must listen to their citizens.  It works badly when an enemy needs to be confronted especially if preemptive action is needed.  However, if you have two democracies you can virtually count on no war.");
