Many disagreements will continue to end in stalemates, as they do now, but at the very least we will not break the Jewish People apart, and we will not transgress the prohibitions realating to sinas chinam.  \nPerhaps a moderated forum can be opened for civil debate of the issues.  It might help us retain our respect for one another, even though the disagreements are about such major issues, that they will not simply disappear.\nYour Chareidi Friend,\nRabbi E.");

I\'m amused that it\'s so pessimistic only in that David assured me some months back he\'s an optimist. :) I actually have a bit more faith in Israelis to stop the nonsense that David describes. I think the Likud votes are the first wakings by a pragmatic, realistic section of the Israeli public that is neither \'settler\' nor Osloist in its approach (they are closer to the \'settlers\', though). \n\nAlso, reading this in conjunction with Haetzni\'s piece is quite sobering. The impact and power of the Peres/High Court/Elite in Israel remain staggering. So that is rejoinder to my previous comment - the Likud \'rebels\' will face many tests if they are to succeed. \n\nI expect the Shabak\'s Jewish sections to be bolstered soon.");

While Israel smolders from within and is besieged from without, the seeds of destruction are germinating.  In the bitter end, all the parties will lose.  Because corrective action was not taken in time, multitudes will perish. And for what? For human greed and corruption and stubborness and plain stupidity.\n\n\"Never Again\"?  \n\nHow quaint. AddReply(150778,"some replies","David Hornik","Jerusalem","08/19/04","I\'m sorry if this article offends some haredi people, but I don\'t think it\'s valid to keep refusing army service (with honorable exceptions) and to keep the Zionist state at arm\'s length while relying on the tax money of its citizens. Sorry--this is not real Judaism, which stresses independence as a supreme value (as well as military service, by the way). To Phillip, a U. of Haifa poll found only 49%-44% in favor of disengagement. Polls are very dubious; they\'re manipulatively worded; and many of the people responding to them don\'t know the facts and are subject to lefty media brainwashing in the first place. Shalom and Bob, many thanks, I appreciate it.");
AddReply(150784,"Hornik and Hareidi Parites","Phillip Slepian","Elizabeth, NJ, USA","08/19/04","As a Torah Jew, I completely understand the objections of secular Israelis to the Hareidi agenda in Israel.  The Hareidi parties are at least as, if not more than, responsible for the destruction of Ben Gurion\'s Status Quo arangement as the secularists.  Both sides have eaten away at the old, yet workable status quo until not much of it remains.  The result is a polarized, divided society in which the factions will have trouble coexisting with each other.\n\nIf Israel falls (God forbid), Israelis, of all stripes, will have nobody to blame but themselves.  A recent poll, The Peace Index, shows that 60% of Israelis support or strongly support the Gaza \"disengagement\" plan, with only 34% opposed to it.  Even within Likud, 55% support a withdrawal from Gaza, with only 40% opposing.  While the poll has a margin of error of +/-4.5%, it is still very revealing.  If it is accurate, it means that (a) Sharon is right to pursue the surrender of Gaza, since Israelis support it, and (b) those opposed to the plan have failed to get their message across to a majority of the voters in Israel.  I know I can\'t criticize, since I do not live in Israel, but it saddens me to see Israelis so tired of war, so desperate for peace and international acceptance, that they have started to make really bad decisions that could (God forbid) lead to the destruction of Israel as a Jewish state.  My heart is breaking. ");
