If Israel retreats from Gaza without severely weakening Hamas, Arafat may lose control of Gaza to Hamas.  Apparently, Sharon does not trust Hamas as he does Arafat.  So, he is weakening Hamas to the point where Arafat can easily take over a Jew-free Gaza.  Why do you think Arafat is showing so much support for Hamas, his long-time enemy?  Arafat now has the chance to co-opt a weakened Hamas, and place it within his terror umbrella.  Also, billions of dollars are at stake here.  The world community, including Israel, will all be obligated to insure that an independent Gaza does not collapse, so they will pump piles of cash into it.  Whichever terror organization is in charge will pocket those billions.  Arafat shows no interest in just maintaining his fortune, but continues to seek to add to his loot.  Running a corrupt Gaza government will be a windfall for Arafat and his inner circle.\n\nThe sick joke, however, is on Sharon, and ultimately, the Jewish people.  If there is one thing that can be said of Arafat is that he is never to be trusted.  He has proven this over and over again.  No matter what he says or what secret agreements have been made between Arafat and Sharon. as soon as Israel retreats from Gaza, and the money starts to flow in, he will turn all of Gaza into one large military operation, developing newer, more potent weapons to use on Israel.
