AddReply(162973,"Responding to Joseph Graziani by Hugh Fitzgerald","Rachel Neuwirth","Los Angeles","04/02/04","[Hugh Fitzgerald is a scholar on Islam and he does agree as I am with Lev Azkhar.]\n\nHere is Hugh\'s response to Josheph -- \n\nThe whole business about Arab resentment of a \"bad ass neighbor\" (this is NOT my vocabulary, but Graziani\'s) is absurd. The root of the problem is territorial, but not as Graziani would have it defined. Arab imperialism is by far the most successful of all the world\'s imperialisms. It managed to convince a great number of the far more numerous, and much more advanced, peoples it conquered -- first the Christians and Jews of the Middle East and North Africa, and then the Zoroastrians of Persia  (but not the Buddhists and Hindus, who were simply slaughtered or, in the case of the Hindus, basically enslaved under Muslim rule -- there were just too many to kill them all)--that Islam was in fact just a superior version, the \"true\" version, of their own faiths. That is why, as a geopolitical cult, Islam deliberately incorporated bits and pieces of Jewish and Christian teachings, and simply took over, wholesale, the most important figures in Judaism and Christianity -- such as Moses, David, Jesus -- and labelled them \"prophets\" but of course, imperfect prophets, of imperfectly understood \"scriptures.\" \n \nThe notion that Arabs resent the West for its \"interference\" in their affairs is a staple of Arab propaganda. What interference does Mr. Graziani mean --- he knows, or should, that the Arabs became free from the Turks only because the British (and the French) freed them by defeating the Ottomans. He knows that the Hashemites, Emir Feisal in Iraq and Emir Abdullah in Jordan, were handed their monarchies on a platter. He knows that the British in the 19th century did suppress the Arab slave trade (which was then resumed and indeed, continues to this day); if that is \"imperialism\" they resent, tough. He knows that outsiders discovered not only the oil and gas -- which alone fuel the Arab Muslim economies, with their entire wealth based on an accident of geology -- but found uses for that oil and gas, which the Arabs never possessed, and still do not. \n \nGraziani wants us to ignore the fact that Qur\'an and hadith are full of hatred for non-Muslims, and that Muslim history amply confirms this, in the treatment of the dhimmi. He might begin with Bat Ye\'or\'s superb studies, including The Dhimmi, Islam and Dhimmitude, and above all, her masterpiece, The Decline of Eastern Christianity Under Islam. \n \nGraziani might be interested to know that my wife\'s relatives are from Italy, and that within 20 years, Italy will have a very large Muslim population -- they are already trying to ban the crucifix. By 2050 if NOTHING is done, there will be a Muslim majority in Italy. Let him ask himself what he thinks that will mean for Italy, for Italian sculptures and paintings in Florence. Rome, and Venice (all sculptures, and all depictions of humans, violate the Qur\'an and MUST be destroyed). What will it mean for Western civilization? Does he care, or is he more interested in protecting Islam and preventing Infidels from learning what it really is all about? And just what does he think the Jihad is about -- a \"spiritual struggle\" (and he can skip the usual Muslim apologetics about the \"true definition\" of JIhad as something peaceful, absurdly based on one weak hadith  -- I.e. not in the standard recesions of al-Bukhari, Muslim, or the others ---about the \"large jihad\" and the \"small jihad\").\n \nIslam defines clearly the obligation of all Muslims to push back the dar al-Harb (the Domain of War, or the Infidels) until the Dar al-Islam (where Islam rules, and all non-Muslims, even if allowed to live, must live in a state of permanent humilaition and subjugation) covers the entire globe. Yes, Eric Hoffer was right about fanaticism, but it is important to understand that the argument about \"territoriality\" is based on the central tenets of Islam.\n \nYours truly,\nHugh Fitzgerald\n");

Hugh says that Wahhabi version of Islam is the purest and has the \"strongest\" feelings against all infidels. That means all other types of Islam express medium to strong hatred for infidels, while Wahhabi is the strongest among them. Besides, have you heard other islamic sects complain about the statements Wahhabi\'s make? Or say something contradictory, something in support of the other faiths and in support of Jews? I don\'t think so.");

AddReply(162970,"Why they play for keeps","Joseph Graziani","Pasco, WA","03/26/04","To deepen one\'s understanding of the non-religious psychology that is driving the Arab behavior toward Israel and the West, I suggest that you read the following book:\nThe True Believer by Eric Hoffer describes the pscyhology of mass movements. Hoffer shows how leaders of mass movements create objects of hatred to galvanize followers to sustained action. For Thomas Jefferson and the American Founding Fathers the object of hatred was King George III. For Adolf Hitler it was the Jew. For early Mideval Christianity it was heretics. This book is only 151 pages but is incredibly heavy with the wisdom it conveys. It ends with this paragraph. \"J.B.S. Haldane counts fanaticism among the only four really important inventions made between 3000 B.C. and 1400 A.D. It was a Judaic-Christian invention. And it is strange to think that in receiving this malady of the soul the world also received a miraculous instrument for raising societies and nations from the dead -- an instrument of resurrection.\"\nThe reason that the Arab world has decided to pick up this instrument and wield it against us can be understood by reading these two books:\nThe Territorial Imperative: A Personal Inquiry into the Animal Origins of Property and Nations, and The Social Contract: A Personal Inquiry into the Evolutionary Sources of Order and Disorder were both written by Robert Ardrey. The territorial imperative discussed in both books is a concept developed by Nobel laureate Konrad Lorenz and is the basic motivation that causes nations to fight doggedly against a superior invader.  The territorial imperative was at the core of the American revolution and it is at the core of today\'s Islamist movement.  The hate-breathing mosques and misuse of Islamic religion are merely the symptoms of the violation of a basic biological principle -- that all advanced organisms stake out a territory and will defend it against all aggressors, no matter any differences in advantage.\n\nI think the following question will give you the essence of the territorial imperative and help you to understand what is really at the core of Muslim hostility towards the West and Israel.\n\nWhat would you think of a next door neighbor who did the following things without your permission:\n\n1) he parks his car in your driveway, blocks your car in, and refuses to answer his phone when you call to complain thanks to caller I.D.; \n\n2) he takes your newspaper off your front porch, reads it, and then throws it in your trash can; \n\n3) he rearranges your patio furniture so he can see you sunbathing in the back yard;\n\n4) he sends his dog over to crap in your flower garden;\n\n5) he paints the outside of your house a color he likes while you are away at work;\n\n6) he takes the best produce from your garden before you can harvest it; or\n\n7) he chops down a tree in your yard because it blocks his view of your bedroom window?\n\nI don?t know about you but just one of this Bad Ass Neighbor\'s actions is enough to get me really riled up!\n\nFor over 100 years the British and U.S. governments have interfered like the bad ass neighbor above with how the Middle Eastern people have been living on their own real estate. The first sign of their anger erupting was the Iranian revolt in 1979 that deposed the Shah of Iran who was placed in power by the U.S. CIA. Their reaction is very much like the reaction of the American colonists to the behavior of King George III prior to our own revolutionary war for independence.\n\nThe last sentence of Jefferson?s declaration reads, \"And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, We mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.\" This last line of America\'s Declaration of Independence sounded like the words of a fanatic lunatic to King George III of England who in 1776 commanded the world?s most powerful army and navy. I am sure you know that  King George III the most powerful man in the world at the time lost the American revolutionary war to the lunatic fanatics. All because he violated the territorial imperative.\n\nThe United States lost in Vietnam because we violated the territorial imperative. Historian Barbara Tuchman wrote that Ho Chi Minh quoted from  America\'s Declaration of Independence when he was first inaugurated. He actually petitioned Harry S. Truman to become a U.S. territory, but the U.S. returned Vietnam to France as a colony. The Vietnamese were plain sick and tired of being subject to foreigners.  The Japanese starved 2 million Vietnamese to death in order to feed rice to the Japanese armed forces.\n\nFor some additional interesting reading, read the entire text of Jefferson\'s Declaration of Independence. Then objectively read Osama Bin Laden\'s Declaration of War Against America which can be found at http://www.vitrade.com/sudan_risk/laden_declaration_of_war .  Bin Laden\'s list of grievances against America will sound remarkably similar to Jefferson\'s against King George III, and both lists are similar to the actions of my hypothetical Bad Ass Neighbor.\n\nHow can we be certain whose side God is on?\n\nDuring the U.S. Civil War, Abraham Lincoln refused to pray that God was on his side. He preferred to pray that he was on God?s side. I think that in today\'s fracas, the side that prays to be on God\'s side will come out victorious. And God\'s favor may just rest on the side of the fanatics who are simply defending their territory against foreign control like our Founding Fathers fought against King George III. Incidentally, a minority of colonists were in favor of the revolution. The majority was complacent and were not particularly upset with King George III.\n\nThe strongest medicine that I can suggest to cure this inflammation of the territorial imperative is the Platinum Rule. Dr. Tony Alessandra describes the rule at his website as:\n\nWe have all heard of the Golden Rule-and many people aspire to live by it. The Golden Rule is not a panacea. Think about it: \"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.\" The Golden Rule implies the basic assumption that other people would like to be treated the way that you would like to be treated.\n\nThe alternative to the Golden Rule is the Platinum Rule: \n\n\"Treat others the way they want to be treated.\" Ah hah! What a difference. The Platinum Rule accommodates the feelings of others. The focus of relationships shifts from \"this is what I want, so I\'ll give everyone the same thing\" to \"let me first understand what they want and then I\'ll give it to them.\" (Note that this reflects the line from the prayer of St. Francis, \"I may not so much seek to be understood as to understand.\"-my comment, J.G.)\n\nA Modern Model For Chemistry\n\nThe goal of The Platinum Rule is personal chemistry and productive relationships. You do not have to change your personality. You do not have to roll over and submit to others. You simply have to understand what drives people and recognize your options for dealing with them.\"\n\nAll branches of Abraham\'s family-Jews, Christians, & Muslims- must practice the Platinum Rule in order to restore peace, joy, and harmony to the world.\n\nMore on the Platinum Rule can be found at http://www.alessandra.com/about_platinumrule/about_platinum.html\n\nAll the best to you and to the rest of mankind.\n\n");
