He meets with Melchitzedek, (otherwise known as Shem, the son of Noach), the high priest of the L-rd on High, in the city of Shalem, later know as Jerusalem, and the lineage of the high priest is passed on the Avraham. Join Rabbi Chaim Richman and Yitzchak Reuven as they examine all these issues, as well as G-d's final test for Avraham: the binding of Yitzchak on Mount Moriah.

PLUS: Parts 3 and 4: Vintage Classics from the Vault!
Staring today and continuing through the first week of December, while, first Rabbi Chaim Richman, and then Yitzchak Reuven are touring the USA, Temple Talk will feature one half all new material and one half vintage classics from the vault. Today's Temple Talk features two quarters from November, 2007.

The Temple Mount Today: From Rambam to Riots: A Definitely Must Watch Video!

843 years ago the Rambam, (Maimonides) ascended the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, where he offered up prayer to the Creator of the Universe. Today, the mere mention of Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount causes the Moslems clerics to incite their followers to violence, igniting the Temple Mount.

Ascending the Temple Mount and showing reverence to to G-d in the place of His Holy Temple, is a positive commandment expressed in the Torah. Known in Hebrew as “mora haMikdash” this commandment is as applicable today as was in the Rambam’s day.

No amount of violence and naysaying can sever the eternal bond between the nation of Israel and the place G-d chose for His Holy House. Two thousand years of unbroken tradition have preserved the precise knowledge of the location of the Holy Temple, and the adjacent areas permissible to enter.

The Rambam possessed this knowledge. So do we.

Only one way exists today to preserve and strengthen our bond to the place of the Holy Temple: to ascend and to pray, as the Rambam did. Doing so will not create turmoil, but tranquility; not war, but peace.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nw823us8HsA

Weekly Torah Portion: Vayera, with Rabbi Chaim Richman
The Test: At the binding of Yitzchak, Avraham accepted entirely G-d’s will. Being willing to sacrifice one’s own life for the sanctification of G-d’s name, is a deep and undeniable character trait of the people of Israel. But the true “test” is not only being willing to die for our beliefs, but being willing to live for G-d, and walk in the ways of His Torah. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBB0SpXZcUE

Light to the Nations, with Rabbi Chaim Richman: Building the Temple in our Day

Are we in any way, shape or form constrained by halacha (Jewish law) or midrash, (homiletical teachings), from proceeding at once with the building of the Holy Temple? Are we instructed to wait for the long-awaited moshiach? Will the third Holy Temple descend, unaided by man, from the heavens? Maimonides lists building the Holy Temple as a positive commandment, and the intention of Torah is clear: Positive commandments are meant to be performed by the nation of Israel, and are not contingent on the messiah's arrival, nor will G-d perform the commandments for us! Premiers Thursday, Nov. 5.
http://universaltorah.com/programming/category/temple-institute-light-to-the-nations/light-to-the-nations

NOVEMBER IS HERE: See and hear Rabbi Chaim Richman and Rena Richman as they make their way across Texas, New Mexico and Minnesota during the middle two weeks of November. Nor will incitement, head-in-the-sand rabbinical response, or draconian police measures. Nothing can keep the irrepressible people of Israel away from the place where G-d chose to shine His light. The Temple Mount remains in the news as Yitzchak Reuven and Rabbi Richman sound off in this highly energized edition of Temple Talk. A special landmark conference in held in Jerusalem to encourage Jewish ties to the Temple Mount, but what’s the deal with rabbis who criticize those who, after taking careful halachic measures, visit the Mount to show proper reverence to the Creator? Why do some rabbis say that the whole concept of the Holy Temple is “beyond human intellect?”

Noach, the Tower of Babel, the emergence of Avraham, Rachel our matriarch and more….
Jews Press For Rights on Mount; Moslems Riot; Police Cave to Violence: All the latest news from the Temple Mount: http://www.templeinstitute.org/events.htm#newsheadlines

Quote of the Day: Police say No! to Jewish prayer. However, an enigmatic Midrashic teaching reveals that below the surface, in the realm of potential, this month is “on hold,” promised by G-d Himself to be host in the future to the most exciting event of all time… the dedication ceremony of the Third Temple. Rabbi Richman and Yitzchak Reuven explore this fascinating tradition and emphatically conclude that if it’s up to us, in our generation, the future is now! We need to make it happen. Indeed, this theme converges from all directions in this week’s edition of Temple Talk, for this is also the month in which we begin asking for rain in our prayers in the Land of Israel, and it’s also the month in which the waters of the Great Flood in the time of Noah began to fall.

Noah was a truly righteous man who was instrumental in saving the entire world, and today, his righteous descendants are also doing their part to save the world. But: What would you do if you could pray for the world, and you knew that your prayer could save the entire world? This is the question we ponder on the backdrop of this week’s Torah portion.

Also: It was this on the sixth day of this very month, in the year 4926 (1165), that the great Rambam (Maimonides) ascended the Temple Mount! Find out how Jerusalem’s Temple activists are celebrating this important event this year, with a special Temple Mount conference to be held on the anniversary of this important event, on Sunday Oct. 25th in “Heichal Shlomo” on King George Street.

Learn more about the positive commandment of "mora haMikdash " - showing reverence for G-d on the site of the Holy Temple, in Rambam's Laws of the Chosen House: http://www.templeinstitute.org/rambam.htm

Read the Rambam's own description of his own personal ascent to the Temple Mount: http://www.templeinstitute.org/kids/goodies-rambam-1.htm

This week's Temple Institute online Torah video teachings:

Weekly Torah Portion: Noach, with Rabbi Chaim Richman

The mystery of Noach: How righteous was he? Was he a perfect tzaddik? Or could he have done more to save humanity? Noach walked with G-d, but did he walk with man? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRQxZ6Oi8hE

Light to the Nations, with Rabbi Chaim Richman

Rambam's Hilchot Beit haBechira - Laws of the Chosen House, Chapter VIII: The Levitical Watches, Part II:

On guard for the honor of G-d's Shechina: What happens when a Levite is caught dozing on his shift? It seems astonishing to us that such a thing could occur: to fall asleep while guarding the Holy Temple, but for the Levites and Priests whole shared the guard duty, this was, after all, a day-to-day activity! How we could use such a system of guarding the sanctity of the Temple Mount today!

Online premier: Thursday, October 22. http://universaltorah.com/programming/category/temple-institute-light-to-the-nations/light-to-the-nations

November 2009: See and hear Rabbi Chaim Richman and Rena Richman as they make their way across Texas, New Mexico and Minnesota during the middle two weeks of November. What that’s all about? True, Chanukah is the next major event on the Jewish calendar, but did you know it’s connected in many ways to Sukkot? Find out why on this week’s edition of Temple Talk.

As we begin reading the Torah again this week with Parshat Bereshith, the first reading of the Torah, our hosts discuss the wonders, pleasures, and excitement of Torah study that increases in depth year after year. Parshat Bereshith is the very epitome of the mystery of creation, but at the very center of G-d’s creation lies the secret: the eventual establishment of the Holy Temple on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, for the benefit of man. No wonder powerful forces seek to keep the people of Israel away from the Temple Mount! Yitchak and the Rabbi review the events of the week of Sukkot and bemoan the desecration of G-d’s honor that was caused when Jews were prevented from ascending the Mount in purity during the holiday because of Muslim violence and threats. What to do?

Also: Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berdichev, Rosh Chodesh Mar Cheshvan, and more!

This week's Temple Institute online Torah video teachings:

Weekly Torah Portion: Bereshith, with Rabbi Chaim Richman

Adam HaRishon – the first man: Who was he, and what is he to us? Even the angels were perplexed when G-d created man. Who was man and why did G-d create him? We are man, and G-d created us in order to seek out G-d through the medium of His created world. A new year awaits. Now that we have gone through the Rosh HaShana reality- changing convocation with the King, our hosts ask: “Now what?” It’s time to define concepts such as sin and repentance. What is a sin, anyway? The Hebrew word teaches us that it involves “missing the mark” and not rising to our own true potential. But Yom Kippur offers us the opportunity to get back to where we once belonged…and still belong. So people get ready!

This week's video features from the Temple Institute:

Weekly Torah Portion: Ha’azinu, with Rabbi Chaim RIchman:

“Listen, O heavens, and I will speak! And let the earth hear the words of my mouth! My lesson will drip like rain; my word will flow like dew…” (Deuteronomy 32:1-2)

Sometimes our spirits are in the clouds; other times we’re feeling totally grounded. Sometimes we feel G-d’s presence around us as strong as the driving rain. Other times He seems as elusive as the morning dew. But whether we’re up or we’re down, whether we are focused on our attachment to G-d, or we’re feeling distant and disconnected, G-d is here. Always. This message of the first Shabbat of 5770 will serve us well throughout the coming year. http://universaltorah.com/programming/2009/09/22/weekly-torah-portion-haazinu-4.htm

Light to the Nations Video Teaching, with Rabbi Chaim Richman: Reflections on Yom Kippur: The great day of opportunity and empowerment. But our hosts discover that these "curses" are nothing but blessings in disguise, waiting to be realized in their full potential for goodness... and ironically, it is we ourselves who garb these G-dly blessings in a raiment of negativity.

As ever, Yitzchak Reuven and Rabbi Richman find that the bottom line is our level of personal responsibility. Last week's haftorah (prophetic reading) from the book of Isaiah takes this principle even further and demonstrates that ultimately, even the End of Days is up to us to bring about earlier than its preordained default time. Tune in for details!

Our hosts also share some exciting Temple Institute news and updates and offer a review of the Temple-related accomplishments and achievements for the outgoing year of 5769.

Beginning on Friday, September 18, Light to the Nations teachings will be broadcast on Jewish Life TV which airs on Direct TV on Channel 366 all over the US wherever Direct TV can be found. The time slot is 2 AM and 8 AM East Coast time. More scheduling information will soon be available on jewishlifetv.com, and, of course, on templeinstitute.org.

This week's video features from the Temple Institute:

Light to the Nations Video Teaching, with Rabbi Chaim Richman: The Repentance of Love, Part II: On Rosh HaShana we stand before G-d in awe, and our repentance is inspired by fear before the King and Judge. But the repentance of the month of Elul comes from a place of love, a desire to please G-d. Premiering Thursday, September 10th. This week's Torah portion of Ki Tavo (Deut. 26:1) begins with the word V'haya, an expression indicating joy. And there's no experience of joy as great as bringing the first fruits of the Land of Israel to the Holy Temple! The concept of the first fruits is an extraordinary lesson in the dynamics of the human condition, and as our hosts learn, bringing the first fruits represents a dimension of our relationship with G-d that applies to all of us throughout our lives. It's all about humility, and the ability to put ourselves aside and acknowledge G-d's presence and kindness.

Indeed, it would seem that the commandment of coming into the Land and bringing the first fruits to the Holy Temple makes this parsha an especially happy one!

But take heed: this Torah portion also features the severe admonitions (curses) which transpire when the people of Israel do not follow the Torah... but wait, this section also begins with the word V'haya, indicating joy! What's the deal? Is this not a great contradiction? Our hosts solve this mystery!

Yitzchak Reuven and Rabbi Richman also study the disease of forgetfulness and the sorry state of affairs in which masses of humanity veritably sleepwalk their lives away. Our hosts declare: Somnambulism stops here! Time to wake up! How can this waste of life be avoided? A perfect lesson for our month of Elul and preparation for the Days of Awe.

This week's video features from the Temple Institute:
Light to the Nations Video Teaching, with Rabbi Chaim Richman: Topic to be announced! This soldier has special merit, and G-d can grant him spiritual power and insight. The Israeli soldier represents the highest level of morality, but the world looks at him with hypocrisy. Rabbi Richman takes this to a personal place as he acknowledges G-d's goodness in a miracle involving one of his sons in the IDF this past week. The Torah's teaching of the "Woman of Beautiful Form" is also an allusion to the concept of soul-mates, and to the Shechina...

Yitzchak Reuven cites an enigmatic Midrashic teaching that depicts King David being lifted into Heaven on the back of a large, horned beast. "If You let me down safely," David declares to G-d, "I will build the Holy Temple." Yitzchak and Rabbi Richman explore the meaning of this teaching, and discover what it was that King David was after... a way of serving G-d in this world while standing on solid ground. Indeed, that's the secret of the Holy Temple. But today, much to our chagrin, a trip to the site of the Holy Temple can leave one feeling quite unstable... especially if you're Jewish. The anti-Jewish discrimination employed by the Israeli police is quite well-known. But what happens when non-Jewish visitors, in this case Righteous Gentiles, are accused by the Israeli police of being Jewish? As if that is a crime! Tune into this week's "Temple Talk" and find out!

This week's video features from the Temple Institute:
Light to the Nations Video Teaching: Thoughts on the Stone Altar
Rabbi Chaim Richman and Yitzchak Reuven discuss the historical and spiritual significance of the stone altar which is currently under construction in the land of Israel.
