HOUR 1
Join Rabbi Richman and Yitzchak Reuven for a fast-paced, Torah-true analysis of Israel's actions in Gaza and the grand scheme of things. What forces are at work here? Should we care about the world's predictable, hypocritical reaction? And will we get to finish what we've started? Do we need someone's permission?
The "Fast of the Tenth" (Zechariah 8:19) commemorates the beginning of the siege against Jerusalem that eventually led to the Destruction of the first Holy Temple. Have we learned anything since that time? The Torah promises that this day, like all the contemporary fast days, will be transformed into days of joy (see the above-mentioned verse): But how will that come about? And what do we accomplish by fasting, anyway? A thought-provoking discussion of the issue of ancient and modern sieges against the Jewish people, and what the essence of a fast day is all about.
HOUR 2
The action-packed Torah portions of Va'yigash and Va'yechi: The unification of Joseph and Judah, a paradigm of the union of historic, cosmic forces working together towards bringing on the final redemption. No man is present when Joseph reveals himself to his brothers! What does that really mean? And in Va'yigash, Joseph is finally united with his beloved father Jacob?but at that emotional moment, while Joseph cries and hugs his father, Jacob finds it necessary to recite the "Shema Yisrael" prayer! (Deut. 6). Now, of all times?! Why did he express himself in such a detached manner? And later in Va'yechi, the Shema is recited again?this time by Jacob's sons, at the moment of their father's prophetic revelation concerning the messianic Redemption! What's going on here?
