Raz Hartman is a classically trained musician who has been playing since the age of 6. He spent most of his high school in a musical high school in Jerusalem, and then studied music at the University of California. But the day he met Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach changed the way he understood music. Raz spent three hours mesmerised by the "Singing Rabbi" and his soulful story-telling and singing.
After studying for 6 years at the Bat Ayin Yeshiva, known for being a little different, a little more spiritual and a little more organic, Raz was ordained as a rabbi.
Today Raz runs a historic old synagogue in the Nahlaot neighborhood of Jerusalem called VaAni Tefilla ("And I am Prayer"). This fresh and energetic place encourages prayer through song, and draws a weekly crowd of hundreds of Jews from every walk of life.
Tune in to meet this articulate, soulful Jew with the spiritual, musical talent.
