If you want to be informed about Israel’s forthcoming elections, Walter’s World is the programme for you - bringing all sides of the story.
In this country there are just over 5.5 million registered voters in 2013 and they have 34 parties to choose from. Yes, you read it correctly. Thirty-four.
That means there is a party for every 162,000 Israelis. Isn’t this a crazy state of affairs? The inevitable effect is that no single party will have an overall majority and we shall again have a coalition government where every constituent section will pull in a different direction, looking for their own instead of the country’s benefit and making effective governance and particularly foreign policy extremely difficult. The British slogan Right or wrong – my country unfortunately finds no resonance here.
Walter brings you some of those parties’ policies including the New Pensioners Party and the loonies you never heard of.
Also in this programme disturbing news about some of the religious leadership.
